SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary)
Location: South Shields
Salary: £75-£110 per day
Start Date: Immediately

Are you passionate about supporting young people in a secondary school environment? GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to join our team in South Shields. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant in a Secondary setting, you will play a vital role in helping students with social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) needs across Key Stages 3 and 4 to achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities of a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) needs
  • Assist the class teacher in managing challenging behaviours
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional well-being
  • Support students with their academic, social, and personal development
  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and outside agencies to support student progress

Requirements for a Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students and staff
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
