Oxford, United Kingdom UK Biobank Full time
DescriptionWhere can you directly impact the improvement of health for everyone, everywhere?

At UK Biobank, that’s where.

Our unique datasets are enabling scientific discoveries that will improve human health worldwide - and your role will be pivotal to that journey: as our new Participant Engagement Officer, you will help to take our participant involvement programme to a new level.
Overview of the roleCan you do it?

The answer is “yes”, if you have experience of;
  • Working with PPIE advisory groups to ensure a diversity of voices are heard
  • Facilitating patient and public involvement in research projects
  • Organising and designing effective virtual and face to face meetings
  • Building positive relationships with colleagues at all levels.

Is this ‘You’?

Reporting to the Head of Participant Engagement, you’ll be a natural communicator able to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders both internally and externally. You’ll have excellent organisation and problem-solving skills, with a passion for engaging and involving UK Biobank’s participant community and others in ways that are inclusive and meaningful.

Now you’re looking to build on your experience of working directly with patients, research participants or members of the public in an engagement and communications role - in a team that is helping to shape public health for generations to come.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Manage the recruitment of UK Biobank participants and family members to advisory groups to ensure a diversity of voices are represented to advise on a range of ongoing and new UK Biobank activities.
  • Act as the main point of contact for participant and family member contributors.
  • Organise online and in-person meetings of participant advisory groups, and contribute to the design and running of these meetings.
  • Assist in providing contributors with written and verbal briefings to ensure they are supported and well informed.
  • Facilitate the smooth running of the groups by developing good working relationships with other UK Biobank colleagues, such as those involved in scientific study development, communications, and the Participant Resource Centre.
  • Plan and organise other participant, patient and public involvement and engagement activities as required.
  • Contribute to raising awareness of the value of participant, patient and public involvement across the UK Biobank organisation more widely.
  • Help manage and respond to requests from UK Biobank colleagues for participant, patient and public involvement in projects, upholding the values and aims of the Participant Involvement Strategy.
  • Help build positive relationships between contributors and senior decision makers at UK Biobank.
  • Assist in the evaluation of participant, patient and public involvement activities, for example by writing reports, and help ensure contributors hear about the difference their views and contributions are making.
Working hours are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday (part time considered), flexible (UK based) remote working and / or in Oxford or Cheadle, Stockport (until 2026 when we move to Manchester Science Park).  Occasional UK travel and overnight stays will be required for meetings.

If that is ‘You’, find out more about an exceptional role that offers an outstanding rewards package.
