Are you looking for apatient facing role with the opportunity to develop your clinical skills andmake a difference to patient care? We are looking for full time and part time pharmacytechnicians to join our expanding primary care network pharmacy teams. Thesuccessful candidate will be enrolled on the Centre for Pharmacy PostgraduateEducation primary care pathway to develop them in their patient facing role andsupported locally by a clinical pharmacist. The post holder will providesupport to general practice staff with regards to prescription and medicationqueries. They will undertake medicines reconciliation on transfer of care and developsystems for safer prescribing through local audits. The post holder will workas part of a multi-disciplinary team in a patient-facing role. This is a newrole within our PCNs with the successful candidate being able to shape the roleof the pharmacy technician in primary care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will play an important role, complementingclinical pharmacists, communitypharmacists and other members of the PCN multi-disciplinary team. Workingunder supervision of a pharmacist they will ensure effective and efficient useof medicines. Pharmacy technicians core role responsibilities will coverclinical, and technical and administrative categories.

The purpose of the role is to lead improvementsto maximise safe, cost effective best practice in prescribing to improve thequality of patient care. The post holder will help patients to get the bestfrom their medicines by switching medications to agreed and approved protocols,improving repeat prescribing processes in General Practice, including promotionof repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aimingto reduce wasted medicines.

Job responsibilities

Undertake patient facing andpatient supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use, through shareddecision-making conversations with patients.

Provide expertise to address boththe public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyleadvice, service information, and help in tackling local health inequalities.Carry out medicines optimisation tasks including effective medicineadministration ( checking inhaler technique), supporting medication reviewsand medicines reconciliation. Where required, utilise consultation skills towork in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicineseffectively.

Support the PCN multi-disciplinaryteam to ensure efficient medicines optimisation processes are being followed.

Implement efficient ordering andreturn processes and reducing medication wastage. Develop relationships withother pharmacy professionals and members of the multidisciplinary team tosupport integration across health and social care including primary care,community pharmacy, secondary care and mental health.

Support the implementation of national and localprescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and otherprimary care settings.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community, or hospital pharmacy Good verbal and written communication Good interpersonal skills, ability to make effective relationships with others Excellent attention to detail Excellent keyboard and computer skills

Experience in primary care Working with EMIS

Qualifications

Essential

Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with General Pharmaceutical Council BTEC/NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical sciences (or equivalent)

Desirable

Member of the Association of Pharmacy technicians UK (APTUK) Completed, or currently undertaking, the NHSE/CPPE primary care pharmacy education pathway
