Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Psychologist (or a newly qualified psychologist interested in a preceptorship role) to join one of the Complex Community Care Teams based at East Lancashire Child and Adolescent Service (ELCAS), Burnley General Hospital. The Complex Community Care Teams are innovative and dynamic multidisciplinary CAMHS teams, that provide essential mental health support to enhance the social and psychological development of young people who are experiencing complex mental health difficulties.

The multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) are made up of Consultant Child Psychiatrist's and mental health practitioners who have skills in a range of therapeutic modalities/specialisms, including but not limited to CBT, Family Therapy, SFP, IPT-A, art psychotherapy, counselling and non-medical prescribing. The successful candidate will also be working alongside other clinical psychologists within ELCAS and will join a large network of clinical psychologists as part of the Specialist Network in LSCFT.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking individual, who has excellent relational and interpersonal skills and a genuine commitment to working with children, young people and families.

Candidates not yet meeting all requirements for appointment at Band 8a can be considered for appointment at Band 7. Progression to the 8a pay band would be conditional upon demonstration of the required competencies via evaluation and job performance.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work in one of the Complex Community Care Teams, delivering the highest quality, evidence-based clinical care and treatment for children, young people and their families. The post holder will work closely with other team members from a variety of professional and therapeutic backgrounds and will provide a psychological perspective to cases. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of complex young people with a variety of mental health disorders up to the age of 18. The post holder will work across East Lancashire and will be expected to travel and work from various clinical locations as required.

The role will involve but is not limited to:

Providing high-quality specialist psychological assessment, formulation, evidence-based psychological therapy and evaluation, including ROMS.Supervising assistant, trainee and clinical psychologists, as well as other colleagues (band 8a). Offering advice and consultation to non-psychological colleagues and to other non-professional carers, where psychological intervention is a key aspect of treatment programmes. Working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures. Utilising research skills for audit, policy and service development within the area served by the service. Contributing to service development, training and work towards leading on a specialist area of interest (band 8a).

Qualifications

Essential

Doctoral level training in clinical psychology or equivalent for those who trained prior to 1996, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS. Supervision training through the Doctorate courses to enable supervision of trainee clinical psychologists.

Desirable

Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology. Post doctorate qualification/training in supervision.

Knowledge

Essential

Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology. Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of a range of work procedures and practices. This can be evidenced through post-doctoral specialist training, research, study or accreditation. Knowledge of legislation in relation to children, young people and family's mental health.

Experience

Essential

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients across a range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings. Experience of contributing a psychological perspective within the context of multidisciplinary care.

Desirable

Experience of teaching, training and/or supervising assistant, trainee clinical psychologists. Experience working with children, young people and families in a clinically relevant setting, in addition to that gained during Clinical Psychology training.

Other

Essential

Ability to drive and willing to use car for work purposes. Able to work in UK.
