MidYorkshire Teaching NHS Trustispleased to announce these high quality and exciting posts, which have beendesigned primarily for trainees who have successfully completed their FY2placements and wish to complete a CST equivalent training within Surgery. These posts are an ideal steppingstone fortrainees between their FY2 and Specialty training posts and offer opportunitiesfor applicants to develop skills and experience in other areas such as medicaleducation and quality/service improvement. Our posts combine education and careerdevelopment with practical patient-facing care. These posts are also suitablefor trainees who wish to build their portfolios before applying for nationalcore training rotations.
The post holders will be eligible forcompletion of certificate of equivalence of core training. This certificate will allow trainees to applyfor national specialty training programmes (STR) of their choice. Each post holder will be assigned aneducational supervisor and are expected to achieve all core trainingcompetencies set out by the ISCP.Trainees will be appointed at CT1 level and may be eligible to continuefor a second year at CT2 level subject to a satisfactory Annual Review ofCompetency Progression (ARCP).
Main duties of the job
These posts are to commence in August 2025 for a period of 12 months and may be extendible to 24 months subject to satisfactory will need to have successfully completed the FY2 year of training and worked within the NHS for a minimum of 6 months in any medical or surgical speciality including general practice.Applicants will need to provide evidence of completion of foundation training or alternative certificate on foundation competencies.
You will be based at Pinderfields hospital in Wakefield with potential peripheral sessions at Dewsbury District Hospital and Pontefract Hospital. You will be expected to work within the following surgical specialties: Urology, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics or Otolaryngology (ENT) depending on your rotation.
The post holders will participate on a full shift will work in collaboration with and under the direction of the Consultants and other members of the teams in the day-to-day management of patients within the include ward rounds, assisting the consultants and senior trainees in the operating theatre, undertaking the pre- and post-operative care of patients on the wards, attending out-patient clinics and attending to referrals in the Emergency Department.

Job responsibilities
The posts will includetraining in all the competencies required for completion of core surgicaltraining. The post is offered on a fixed term 12months with possible extension to 24 months, depending on successful ARCP after12 months.
Post holderswill need to have evidence of achievement of foundation competencies, viacurrent employment in a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or 12 monthsexperience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence ofachievement of foundation competencies at the time of application. Only a validFPCC (FACD or alternative certificate of foundation competence will beaccepted as evidence.
The postholders should have worked within the NHS for a minimum of 6 months in anymedical or surgical speciality including general practice.
We arelooking for doctors to work at CT equivalent level within various acute surgicalspecialities including Urology, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Trauma andOrthopaedics and Otolaryngology (ENT). TheCT1 and CT2 years will consist of 2 x six-month attachments per year. Successful candidates will be asked to ranktheir specialities of choice, and the posts will be allocated based on theoverall ranking after the interviews. We try and accommodate first and secondchoice requests whenever possible. Please note that these are not guaranteedand subject to change at the discretion of the training programme directors. Rotations may be changed based on the ARCPpanel assessment of progression and individual trainee needs. Swaps to therotation will only be permitted under exceptional circumstances and are at thediscretion of the ARCP committee.
The postholders will participate on full shift rotas and will be required to provide arange of services. The post holders willalso be encouraged to undertake continuing medical education and study leavewill be available as per the Trust policy.The post holders will have the opportunity to attend departmentalteaching every week.
The post holders will work incollaboration with and under the direction of the Consultants and other membersof the teams in the day-to-day management of patients within the service. Duties include ward rounds, assisting theConsultants and senior trainees in clinic and the operating theatre,undertaking the pre- and post-operative care of patients on the wards andattendance for referrals in the Accident and Emergency Department.
