Climate Change Officer
Service: Commercial Services
Closing Date: Wednesday 19th June 2024
Property Services are seeking to recruit a Climate Change Officer to their Building Services and Climate Change Team. The postholder will be required to identify internal and external funding streams, partnership opportunities and deliver a range of projects to help the Council achieve its carbon reduction and environmental targets. This will generally be through the reduction of greenhouse gases to allow the Council to not only improve its environmental performance, but also tackle the challenges of climate change mitigation and adaptation. There is also a requirement for the postholder to monitor and report on performance against climate change targets and to corporately co-ordinate and communicate climate change and environmental issues including raising awareness of climate change. The location of the post is negotiable.
Property Services are therefore seeking a highly motivated, customer focused person who has a determination to succeed and deliver first class results. The role requires someone who has significant knowledge and understanding of climate change and environmental issues who has the ability to engage well, plan a diverse workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
The post holder is required to travel effectively and efficiently throughout Argyll and Bute and beyond to meet the needs of the service.
The Council will also accept applications from graduates that may not have the necessary experience. Should such applicants be successful they will be placed on a training programme and progression through the grading scheme will be dependent upon them making satisfactory progress in the appropriate professional course of study including the successful completion of any examination, interview, test of competence etc. and having made satisfactory progress at work.
Argyll and Bute Council recognises the numerous benefits of a positive work-life balance to the wellbeing and productivity of our employees. We will take a flexible first approach to requests from our employees to change the way that they work. While we must balance such requests with the need to ensure the quality of the important services we deliver is not compromised, we will ensure that each request is given careful consideration with a view to achieving a positive outcome wherever possible.
Applicants should note that:-- This post is suitable for job share.
