Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Paediatric Neurodisability to join our Medical Team and to make a lasting difference to children with brain injury and neurodisability. You will gain unique experience in Paediatric Neurorehabilitation and management of Neurodisability. Previous experience in Paediatric Neurodisability although desirable is not essential as long as the candidate is willing to undertake further training in these niche subspecialties.
The Childrens Trust is the UKs leading charity for children with acquired brain injury, providing expert rehabilitation, education, therapy and care at our national specialist centre in Tadworth, and to children and their families across the UK, via our Brain Injury Community Service. Providing residential accommodation for children with highly complex neurodisability, we are the largest centre commissioned by NHS England for Category A neurorehabilitation.
You will have the opportunity to develop and implement your expertise in an environment that is focused on the highest clinical and quality standards and considered overall outstanding by the Care Quality Commission. You will work in a 24-acre site which is unusual in its beautiful historic nature, as it is unique in its state-of-the-art facilities including robotic technology and virtual reality.

Main duties of the job
You will be a key member of the medical team which consists of Medical Director, Consultants in Paediatric Neurodisability, Senior Specialty Doctors in Paediatric Neurodisability (ST7-8 equivalent), Specialty Doctors (ST1-3 equivalent), Medical Business Manager, Medical Secretaries and Medical Admin. You will report to the Medical Director. Your role will be to support The Childrens Trust to be a leading centre for the care of children and young people with Brain Injuries and Complex Neurodisability.
Working hours are 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday, with no obligatory Out of Hours cover.
To succeed in this high profile and diverse role, you must demonstrate:
Full professional GMC registration and licence to practice and an MBBS or equivalent. CCT in Paediatric Neurodisability, Community Paediatrics or General Paediatrics or be within 6 months of achieving this at the time of interview. MRCPCH or equivalent. You will be a natural and enthusiastic leader, able to support a high performing team. Strong clinical skills, combined with excellent child and family focussed interpersonal skills. A caring, supportive and can-do approach.

Clinical Casework
The timetable and job plan willbe agreed with the Medical Director to comply with the requirements of theorganisation. A formal job plan will be agreed between the post-holder andMedical Director 3 months after commencing the post and reviewed at leastannually thereafter in conjunction with the appraisal process.
You may be required to work across ourservice areas, either in The Childrens Trust School or in Children and FamilyServices (Neurorehabilitation, Step Down and Long-Term Care).
Responsibilities will include:
Supervising theadmission of all new children and providing regular medical consultation.
Overall supervision ofthe children, attending regular unit meetings, arranging investigations,writing or contributing to admission and discharge summaries.
Direct clinicalsupervision of junior medical staff (Specialty Doctors and Specialist Traineeon rotation from either London or KSS Deanery).
Leading weekly medicalhouse/ward rounds.
Supervising phlebotomy,tracheostomy and gastrostomy button changes, drug charts and reports.
Attending specialistclinics neuropsychiatry, neurology, orthopaedic, audiology, ophthalmology,dental, spinal, orthopaedic and movement disorders/botulinum toxin injectionclinics.
Training will beprovided with movement disorder assessments and ultrasound-guided botulinumtoxin injections to those willing to seek further specialisms within the jobrole.
Approving emergencyprotocols.
You will be expected towork closely and collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams.
Support the emergencyresponse team.
Contribution to thepre-admission assessments and follow up advice.
Contribute to TheChildrens Trust research and training programmes.
To undertake other or additional dutiesthat are within your skills and abilities, as the organisation may reasonablyrequire from time to time.
Medical team
Support and participateat the fortnightly medical team meetings.
Participate inarrangements as required by Medical Director, timely submission of annualleave requests, study leave.
Attendmulti-disciplinary meetings, teaching sessions and journal clubs.
Participate in servicedevelopment, development of policies and protocols, digitalisation ofservices, medical notes, clinical audits and other quality improvementprojects.
Research, Audit & Clinical Governance
To lead on the MedicalTeam audits and integrating them into Clinical Governance audit programme.
To participate fully inthe investigation of complaints, clinical incidents and near misses in linewith The Childrens Trusts policy using IRAR (an online incident reportingsystem).
To work within theoperational policies and procedures and protocols relating to the Trust.
To actively participatein annual appraisal, supervision and the job plan review process.
To maintain clinicalCPD activity and participate in the Revalidation process.
To participate inclinical governance activities.
Interest in researchactivity will be encouraged.
Education and Training
To provide guidance andsupport to immediate medical and multi-disciplinary team colleagues and thewider service where appropriate.
To participate inorientation and induction for new medical staff as appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential
MBBS/Equivalent. MRCPCH/Equivalent. CCT in Paediatric Neurodisability, Community Paediatrics or General Paediatrics or within 6 months of CCT. GMC Registration. Licence to Practice.
