Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a psychology graduate to join a specialist CAMHS-Social Care Partnership Service under supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.

As part of the role you will work alongside the Clinical Psychologist, embedded within Conwy Social Care, to provide an enhanced support service to children in care, with the aim to develop therapeutic approaches to parenting and social work and to support placement stability and step down from residential placements.

There will be opportunities to develop assessment skills in the areas of attachment, parenting, developmental trauma, learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and neurodevelopmental difficulties. Clinical opportunities will also be available including direct work with children and young people, systemic work with family and professional systems and group work with foster parents and professional teams. Data management, service audit, outcome monitoring and research will also be part of the role.

You will learn about complex clinical presentations by connecting with the wider Conwy CAMHS team and working closely with the Clinical psychologist. This will include linking in with Tier 4 CAMHS, health psychology and the Neurodevelopmental Service. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate empathically with people from a range of backgrounds, they will be self-reflective, self-motivated with strong interest in the development of clinical services and with excellent data management skills.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the provision of a psychological service to clients within the specialty under the direction of the supervising clinical psychologist.

To be responsible for the planning and prioritisation of own workload and activities following the direction and guidelines given by the supervising clinical psychologist.

To undertake assessments of clients and implement programmes of care or intervention following guidance from the supervising clinical psychologist.

To undertake research activities as required and directed by the supervising clinical psychologist.

To work within guidelines given by the supervising clinical psychologist.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

2:1 Honours degree in Psychology or its equivalent for those trained overseas. Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society. Undergraduate level knowledge of psychology including some knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology and models of psychopathology. Undergraduate level knowledge of research design and methodology.

Desirable

Evidence of CPD.

Experience

Essential

Previous experience of work with children or young people and families within a clinical, social care or educational setting. Experience of undertaking therapeutic work or involvement in developmental assessments.

Desirable

Substantial experience of working therapeutically with children and adolescents.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work in multi-disciplinary settings under supervision. The ability to consider a range of facts while assessing clients, following guidelines given by the supervisor. Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals. Be capable of working frequently in clinical situations involving emotionally demanding circumstances.
