About the role

This postdoc position aims to seek novel genetic associations, assess the transferability of established loci and characterise the genetic architecture in different populations. The work will cover projects across different outcomes, including sickle cell disease, ageing and depression. Data resources include unique in-house cohorts, as well as the K Genomes Project and Genes & Health.

The successful candidate will join the Mental Health Neuroscience Research Department and the UCL Genetics Institute, offering a diverse and stimulating research environment with great opportunities for training and career development.

The main purpose of the job will be to leverage the unique characteristics of diverse populations to gain a better understanding of the causes of diseases and assess or develop novel methods to carry out genetic research in diverse populations.

Appointment details:

The post is graded on UCL grade 7, spine point 30 (£42, per annum including London Allowance). The appointment is funded for years in the first instance.

About you

Candidates with a background in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, population genetics, genetics of human diseases or bioinformatics are invited to apply. Candidates should hold a PhD in one of these areas or have an equivalent level of experience, such as work experience as a research scientist. Scientific curiosity is key to this role. Candidates also need to have statistical and computational skills in analysing and interpreting genetic data. Knowledge of genetics and experience working with next generation sequencing would be an advantage.
