Job overview

Are you an enthusiastic & experienced pharmacist looking for a career change & your next challenge in an acute hospital trust?

Service innovation & Trust investment has created 2 new senior pharmacist roles at the Trust to better enhance service delivery to the Medicine & Surgical Divisions. You will be key in providing cross-site senior leadership & delivery of the clinical pharmacy service to the relevant division whilst taking on the responsibility of ensuring wider support to the Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team in the delivery & development of the clinical pharmacy service.

This post relates to the Surgical Division & is based at Colchester Hospital due to the presence of the Trust’s vascular service & the imminent opening of the brand new Elective Orthopaedic Centre. As a member of the senior team you will have the opportunity to use your skills & clinical expertise to model this new job role in accordance with the departmental vision.

ESNEFT is about to embark on the implementation of the EPIC electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing & administration as well as pharmacy stock control system. It is envisaged that this new role will play a key supportive role within this process moving forward.

In addition to our fully automated dispensaries we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites & the Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (including a brand new Aseptic facility).

This post can be offered as a 12 months secondment.

Main duties of the job

Be the principal pharmacist for the Surgical Division, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal and cost effective use of medicines across the division; minimising drug wastage and managing the use of high-cost medicines accordingly.

Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to the Division in line with the Trust and pharmacy Key Performance Indicators, agreed clinical standards and medicines legislation.

Provide ongoing clinical support, leadership and guidance to pharmacy colleagues contributing to the clinical pharmacy service within the Surgical Division.

Develop clinical pharmacy input into the Surgical Division and provide departmental leadership into this speciality. This will involve close collaboration with colleagues from the each hospital site to ensure cross-site consistency of practice within the speciality.

Take responsibility for delivering, managing and assisting in the development of clinical pharmacy services.

Be integral in the development of, and maintenance of, the digital medicines agenda within Pharmacy.

Deputise for the Assistant Chief Pharmacist at the Colchester hospital site.

Please also note that, in order to streamline recruitment, this vacancy may expire prior to the advertised closing date so early application is recommended.
