Due to service innovation and trust investment we have created a new exciting role as a Lead Pharmacy Technician - Medicines Optimisation and High Cost Drugs to better enhance service delivery, working across our Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals.

You will be key in providing cross-site support in the delivery of the high cost drugs and biologics agenda, ensuring high quality and cost effective medicines are introduced as part of the medicines optimisation strategy. You will also support on developing the trust medicines formulary.

You will join the team of high cost drugs and biologics pharmacists, providing your expertise as a pharmacy technician to model this new job in accordance with the departmental vision.

Further professional learning and development opportunities are available including leadership courses provided by the trust.

ESNEFT is about to embark on a full site wide implementation of the EPIC electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing and administration as well as pharmacy stock control system.

In addition to our fully automated dispensaries, we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and the Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit (including a brand new Aseptic facility).

Main duties of the job

Work with the team of senior pharmacists in the delivery of the high cost drugs agenda. Engage with clinical teams to ensure appropriate use of high cost drugs ensuring that they are used in line with commissioning policies, monitoring and data collection requirements. Support the Finance Team in the completion and resolution of high cost drug challenges raised by NHSE and ICB. Ensure that high cost drugs are implemented and delivered safely and with high quality in conjunction with the senior pharmacists. Monitor the drug expenditure against budgets for the high cost drugs including Homecare medicines and support in implementing agreed changes required to make cost savings. Assist the senior pharmacists in collaborating with prescribers to switch patients to cost-effective alternatives when appropriate. Review and monitor adherence to the medicines formulary and prioritise cost-effective drugs. Work with the senior pharmacists and clinicians to ensure the safe and effective implementation of new medicines within the Trust. Undertake ward and dispensary duties Provide education and training to other staff on high cost drugs.

Qualifications

Essential

Will hold Certificate of higher education in Pharmacy Technician Practice or C&G/NVQ3/BTEC or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences/pharmacy services. Registered with the GPhC as a pharmacy technician. Nationally Recognised Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) Nationally Recognised Medicines Management Nationally Recognised Medicines Reconciliation

Desirable

Patient Counselling Clinical (CS) or Educational (ES for old courses) Supervisor for UEA courses Certificate in Medicines Management for Pharmacy Technicians (CMMPT) (or working towards)
