The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We ideally require a HCPC registered specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly, dedicated and professional team who provide a high-quality Haematology service for NHS Highland.

Candidates can also apply in the following circumstances:

- No HCPC registration but have an accredited degree or IBMS approved equivalent and this will be at band 5/annex 21 as appropriate. Candidates must provide evidence of accredited degree or equivalence at time of application/interview.

- HCPC registered with no specialist portfolio (or pending) – Band 6/Annex 21 would apply in such circumstances , and the successful candidate will be required to complete the Specialist Diploma in Haematology or Blood sciences in order to transition to Band 6.

The post is based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. Candidates who are HCPC registered/specialist BMS must have experience in an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory.

The Haematology section of the Blood Science Department has been newly equipped with Sysmex Haematology and Coagulation analysers and offers experience in routine & specialist analyses. In addition, the role will include Haemoglobinopathy analysis using Tosoh HPLC.

Once trained the successful candidate will be required to participate in the 24/7/365 out of hour’s rota.

The department provides a tertiary centre for NHS Highland due to the unique location of the hospital, handling specimens from a very wide geographic area including Skye and the Western Isles. The Blood Science department at Raigmore handles over 9.4 million tests per annum.

For potential applicants who may be looking for a change of lifestyle, the Highlands offers the ultimate outdoor lifestyle since from Inverness there is easy access to the Cairngorms, the West Coast of Scotland and the North Coast 500, which is proving very popular due to the outstanding scenery and beautiful sandy beaches along this route. In addition, Inverness provides a cultural hub, with Eden court theatre & Cinema providing events covering all genres throughout the year.
