The role
As a Principal Commissioning Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will join the Ship Test Organisation at Devonport Royal Dockyard. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers, the MOD and the Royal Navy ensuring that platforms can be safely returned to sea post maintenance periods.
Day-to-day, you’ll join a multi-disciplined commissioning team which forms part of the wider Commissioning Group. The main aim of the group is to undertake complex inspections, tests and trials on the Royal Navy’s submarines during maintenance periods.
You’ll be responsible for the management, technical direction and development of a team of electrical Senior Commissioning and Commissioning Engineers Ensuring that all commissioning activities undertaken conform to professional engineering standards, quality, nuclear and submarine safety constraints Ensuring that all test documentation required is prepared and authorised in a timely manner to meet the relevant project programmes Monitoring and reporting progress of system testing, identifying areas for attention in relation to the commissioning plan to ensure early corrective action can be taken To ensure safe operation of all plant and processes under their control and to comply with the Nuclear Site Licence and MOD Authorisation Conditions (LC/AC)This role is full time 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Principal Commissioning Engineer
Significant experience within electrical engineering Good planning, organisation, management, and communication skills High standards with respect to health and safety. Able to interpret relevant system drawings and associated documentation Good interpersonal skillsQualifications for the Principal Commissioning Engineer
HNC or equivalent in an electrical engineering discipline. A lower level of qualification may be considered providing the applicant has substantial and relevant experience.Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
