Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate robust leadership, HR and communication skills in addition to being well organised, highly motivated and financially astute. This role involves the continuation of working with the existing highly successful management team, clinical team and GP partners.

Goodcare Practice & Somerset Medical Centre are a largest & Smallest modern general practice in PCN and located in Northolt UB5. It provides high quality care to over 13,000 registered patients. Goodcare & Somerset practices are located in the same building - Grand Union Village Health Centre.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Strategic Management and Planning - Keep abreast of currentaffairs and identify potential opportunities and threats. Assess and evaluateaccommodation requirements and manage development opportunities. Formulateobjectives and research and develop ideas for future practice development, withregard to enhancing patient services and potential sources of income.

Human Resources with HRPartner - Responsibility for recruitment and selection of staff,including contracts of employment and job descriptions. Ensure Employment Lawcompliance for the disciplinary and dismissal process and after discussion withthe partners take any legal advice necessary. Ensure all employments contractsappropriate to job description and associated paperwork, are signed and kept upto date to reflect working practices. Develop and implement effective staffappraisal and monitoring systems. Be responsible for the health and safetypolicy and its implementation.

Finance - Assist partners inpreparing financial budgets and cash-flow forecasts. Ensure financial contractsare fully met and complied with. Support the Partners to develop and implementprocesses to achieve clinical targets of QOF and enhanced services. Liaise withPCN, accountant, bank and business insurance companies as appropriate or asdirected by the Partners. Oversee the administration of the practice payrolland the NHS Pension and Stakeholder Pension Schemes Directly contribute toprofit improvement by exploring areas for increasing income and reducing costs.

Information Technologyworking with appropriate Partner - Ensure all Practice IT and information governancesystems are fit for purpose and updated appropriately. Oversee all aspects ofcompliance with data protection and GDPR. Premises and Equipment working withrelevant manager. Maintain the premises, liaise with contractors and implementa premises maintenance programme. Liaise with NHSE in notional rent review(every 3 years) To ensure that suitable facilities and equipment are availableto enable all staff to work within the practice.

Communication andRelationships working with appropriate partner. Develop and maintain effectivecommunication both within the practices, PCN and with relevant outsideagencies/stakeholders.

Personal/ProfessionalDevelopment - Participate in any training programme implemented by thepractice as part of this employment. Participate in an annual individualperformance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record ofown personal and/or professional development. Take responsibility for their owndevelopment, learning and performance and demonstrate skills and activities toothers who are undertaking similar work.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths. Degree with relevant business, management or financial qualification Evidence of a commitment to continuing professional development.

Experience

Essential

Experience of and success at motivating and managing people including conducting appraisals. Experience as a practice manager, with knowledge of employment law and small business accounts. Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and able to promote a team spirit. Working in an environment and be conversant with MS Office and accounting software packages. Successful project management experience. Financial management experience including understanding of spreadsheets, book-keeping, accounts work, cash flow management and financial planning. Preparing and presenting business cases. Extensive HR experience.

Desirable

Business development of small to medium sized companies or organisations. Experience of strategic business planning. Experience of working with regulatory bodies and preparing for inspections. 3 years experience as a senior manager. Experience of clinical medical systems - SystmOne or Emis Knowledge of Primary Care within the NHS. Knowledge of PMS contracts and associated contracts.
