Basingstoke, United Kingdom Hampshire Hospitals NHS Full time

Job overview

We are looking for a motivated team player, ready to think on their feet and inspire the team around them, working efficiently to improve patient safety and outcomes.

We will only be considering staff with professional registration as the post involves regular clinical consideration.

This is a rare opportunity to join an ever developing team, passionate about changing to the needs of our patients. After the three years, we are more challenged than ever to give as many patients as possible the opportunity to receive the elective care that the COVID pandemic did not afford them. The successful candidate will be a key player in making this happen as we aim to reduce elective waiting times.

The flow of our emergency patients is also an exciting new development over the past five years with the opening of BSAU. Working with the Emergency Department and the Site Team , we are looking for someone to maintain positive relationships across the site and improve current services.

Main duties of the job

As the Surgical Bed Manager, you will manage the flow of elective and emergency patients into and out of surgical wards at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital.

You will lead, develop and facilitate the surgical division’s approach to achieving timely and effective admission and discharge of patients, reducing length of stay and maximising the use of bed capacity.

You will balance the competing demands for elective and emergency surgery, working with the divisional clinical leads, management team and nursing teams to ensure that patients are placed and that any clinical or operational developments are implemented.

The postholder will also support the surgical wards as appropriate to improve discharges, patient flow and patient experience.

Working for our organisation

The vision at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is to provide outstanding care for every patient. We serve a population of nearly 600,000 people across Hampshire and West Berkshire as well as some people who access our specialist services from across the country.
