Applications are invited for a full time Consultant Clinical Oncologist with Colorectal & Gynaecology cancer sites at Bedford Hospital and sessions for Radiotherapy at Addenbrookes Hospital.

This appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 Consultant Contract (England).

Main duties of the job

The appointee will join a team of 8 existing Oncology Consultants working between Bedford and Addenbrookes Hospitals, providing a cohesive, multi-disciplinary service for the treatment of Colorectal and Gynae Cancers; and would also work as part of the Acute Oncology Team. The posts would involve spending 2.5 days in Bedford and 2.5 day in Cambridge per week.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a full time (10PA) post and provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated clinician within a developing and growing service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Medical degree FRCR, MRCP

Desirable criteria

MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research

Registration

Essential criteria

Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview) or CESR (must be on Specialist Register at time of applying)

Teaching

Essential criteria

Knowledge and ability to teach all grades of trainees and medical students

Desirable criteria

Has attended Teaching the Teachers or similar course

Clinical Governance

Essential criteria

Able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance.

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria

Excellent all round experience of DGH work Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Oncology Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service without direct supervision.

Clinical Effectiveness

Understanding of clinical governance and ability to demonstrate ongoing CPD Experience of guideline appraisal Participation in relevant local audits Ability to interpret and apply clinical research
