We are looking to appoint two Senior Clinical fellow in Orthopaedics and
Trauma. These are 12 month posts which may be extended by mutual
agreement.
Training in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, Shoulder surgery, Foot and Ankle surgery and Complex and Revision Hip and Knee arthroplasty will be given.
All Senior Clinical Fellows participate in the management of Trauma and the
post holders will participate in the 1 in 7 on-call trauma week rota.

The Senior Clinical Fellows will be expected to attend ward rounds and
operating sessions as determined by their Consultants and will also be
expected to assist at Orthopaedic and Trauma Clinics. The Senior Clinical
Fellow will be permitted to operate under supervision according to their
experience. This post is also suitable for experienced senior surgeons and
opportunities will be made available for those with more experience.
The postholder will communicate appropriately with the patients' family
doctors when necessary and maintain satisfactory communications with the SHOs, other Specialist Registrars and Consultants, not only in their own but also in other specialties as necessary to benefit the patient in their care.

Inaddition as necessary they will communicate with other hospitals or agenciesfor similar reasons. When on duty for Trauma and Orthopaedics emergencies (or in theunavoidable absence of a colleague who should be on duty) they will attend patients in the A & E Department and determine the initial treatment of these patients whether admitted to hospital or not.

Bedford Hospital is an NHS Trust managed by the Executive Management
Group on which sit Associate Medical Directors. Mr M Sood is the current
Clinical Lead and is responsible for the professional aspects of the Senior
Clinical Fellows careers.

The department currently consists of 8 Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons.
The appointees will be a member of the Department of Orthopaedic and
Trauma Surgery, which is part of Surgery Clinical Business Unit.
The appointee will be based at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust.
