Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a school in Newport that is seeking a Teaching Assistant to work within the schools ALN base.

The successful candidate will be working in the ALN base to support pupils with Special Educational Needs.   The students are taught a range of subjects in an adapted curriculum which includes Literacy and Numeracy alongside mainstream subjects.

For this role we are seeking a Teaching Assistant with experience providing support for primary aged pupils due to the adapted curriculum the students follow.  However, this role will be supporting pupils between 11-16 as the base is within a secondary school.

Hours: 08:10 – 15:10 (Mon-Fri - Term time only)

Salary: £12.90 - £13.84 an hour

Start Date: 2nd September 2024

Contract: 1 year (Sept 2024 - August 2025)

As an SEN Teaching Assistant your role will include:

  • Providing dedicated classroom support to pupils with Additional Learning Needs - particularly supporting pupils with Autism, Learning Difficulties and ADHD.
  • Supporting pupils in developing self-confidence and social interaction skills.
  • Encouraging pupils to take pride in their achievements.
  • Working closely as part of a team with other members of teaching staff across the school following school policies and ethos.

What experience do I need for this role?

The right person for this job will be calm, supportive, and nurturing, but with the ability to be firm but fair where needed. You will be someone that pupils can look to for support and advice, as well as someone that they look up to and respect.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting children or vulnerable individuals but this is not essential. If no previous classroom experience, you must be able to demonstrate transferable skills.

The successful applicant will need an enhanced DBS on the update service, EWC registration and be able to provide 2 references. Teaching Personnel will assist you with these during the on-boarding process.

 

Can you tell me more about the school?

The successful applicant will be joining a popular and thriving Secondary school based in Newport.  The school has two large provisions for supporting children with additional learning needs, and you will be working within the Special Needs Resource Base of this school.

You will have a very supportive team around you which have usually started from the beginning and worked their way up in the school. They will welcome you with open arms and provide you with the support required to feel confident in your approach and know the education plans for the young people so you can start to notice the progress over time.

There is on site parking and the school is easily accessible via Car from the M4.  The school has good public transport links from other areas of Newport.
