Job summary
We're seeking a proactive and enthusiastic General Practice Assistant/Reception Team Leader. This is a split role and will involve overseeing daily operations, managing staff, and ensuring a positive experience for patients. Supporting the clinicians in the smooth running of the practice by handling routine administration and some basic clinical duties enabling the clinicians to focus on the patient.
The successful candidate will play a crucial part in enhancing communication across our healthcare teams and supporting the practice's smooth functioning.
Main duties of the job
The primary function of the GPA is to support the smooth running of our busy GP Practice. This varied role includes a range of administration and routine clinical tasks which you will conduct on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on our patients.
The successful applicant will hold or be willing to undertake completion of the GP Assistant Certificate qualification.
The primary function of the role of Reception Team Leader is to work with, manage, develop and orchestrate the reception team to support them in receiving, assisting and directing patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way, to provide high level administrative assistant to the Practice Manager & Partners when required and project a positive and friendly image to staff, patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
About us
The GP Suite is a small GP Practice based in Jarrow with a patient population of approximately 4550 patients. Our team consists of three GP Partners, two Advanced Clinical Practitioners, three Practice Nurses and one trainee nursing associate. Our clinicians are closely supported by an excellent Administration/Reception and management team. We strive to deliver the highest standard of patient care and maintain good working relationships with external services.

GPA Responsibilities:
Arrange referrals on behalf of the clinician.
Complete basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign.
Help the GP liaise with external agencies.
Support the Practice Manager with QOF, QI and IIF Targets.
Arrange monthly MDT meetings.
Work assigned by the Practice Manager and GP Partners.
Reception Team Leader Responsibilities:
Manager and direct the reception on a day-to-day basis.
Supporting the team in difficult situations.
Lead by example.
Deal with minor complaints.
Welcome patients on arrival in a friendly and courteous manner and monitor the flow of patients during consultations, informing them about changes or delays and dealing with queries as required.
Answering incoming phone calls, transferring calls, or dealing with the callers' requests appropriately.
