Job summary

This is a new clinical academic position which sits across Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and Oxford University. The aim is to enable an early career clinical psychologist to develop a programme of research relating to psychological therapies. The position is jointly embedded in Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust (OHFT) and in the Psychological Therapies theme of the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre. Duties will include both research and clinical work, with relevant clinical supervision and support from senior researchers in Oxford University relevant to the post-holder's research interests.

Main duties of the job

It will be expected that the Fellow's research will address a key clinical area for adult and/or adolescent patient populations, with the potential to create significant patient benefit. Examples might include: inpatient care; crisis services and suicidal ideation; neurodiversity; diversity and inclusion in psychological therapy; or ultra-high-risk of psychosis. The Fellow will collaborate with clinicians, clinical-academics, and individuals with lived experience.

Job responsibilities

The position is a new initiative from the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Psychological Treatments theme (Daniel Freeman / Anke Ehlers) and psychological therapies leads in Oxford Health (Bill Tiplady / Jo Ryder / Steph Oldroyd / John Pimm). The three-year position would enable the post-holder to develop the basis of a future advanced fellowship application to national funders or programme grant.

We are interested to hear both from candidates ready to move directly into an 8a role and from newly qualified applicants interested in a Band 7 development post, in which case the candidate would progress into an 8a post upon successful completion of an agreed development programme.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology, or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the British Psychological Society, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapist and lifespan developmental psychology HCPC Registration as a Practitioner Psychologist

Desirable

PhD in a relevant area Diploma level qualification in CBT and/or BABCP accreditation (FOR 8A) Qualifications / training in clinical supervision

Further Training or Job Related Aptitude and Skills

Essential

Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.

Experience

Essential

Experience publishing research in peer-reviewed scientific journals on developing the psychological understanding and/or treatment of mental health conditions. This should include first author publications.

Desirable

(FOR 8A) Experience of working in the NHS (or equivalent relevant post-qualification experience)
