An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Medical Secretary to join the Neuro Development Admin Team in West Area .

The post holder will provide an accurate, confidential and supportive administration service for patients, clinical teams, carers and internal and external agencies ( Local Authority, Third Sector) in order to: Provide a safe and efficient patient pathway and provide information and appropriate support to families and carers.

The post holder will support the delivery of a comprehensive high quality medical secretarial administrative service to the Neuro Development team.

The successful candidate will poses good communication and customer service skills, they will be organised and will have the ability to prioritise their workload and meet deadlines. The successful applicant will be computer literate and previous experience within the NHS environment could be an advantage. The successful candidate will possess good audio typing skills.

The post holder will be required to work using their own initiative, managing their own workload as well as being part of the admin team providing cover to colleagues where needed.

Main duties of the job

To support the co-ordination of the administration arrangements to provide a high quality supportive secretarial service to the neuro development team. To work independently and be accountable for organising/prioritising own workload to ensure deadlines are achieved. To support the facilitation of the patients along a defined pathway.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Applications are invited for the post of Medical Secretary. The post holder will provide an efficient administration service to support the clinical team within Neuro Development

It is essential that the applicant holds the relevant qualifications as per the person specification, previous medical secretarial experience would be desirable, a high level of audio typing skills, excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and a good telephone manner. Experience of working in a busy office environment is desirable.

The successful candidate will join and contribute to a dynamic and busy ND team as well as liaising closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team supporting the delivery of high quality patient care.

The post is a total of hours per week.

The role will involve working closely with administrative, other secretarial, nursing and medical colleagues to providing a comprehensive secretarial support service. The post holder may be required to undertake audio typing of clinical letters, other annotation, medical records handling, filing and other administrative tasks. You will need to have good attention to detail, communication and interpersonal skills. You must have the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently; using your initiative to contribute to the smooth running of this busy area. The post holder must have the ability to manage their workload efficiently and effectively.

Candidates must be able to maintain patient confidentiality and ensure a high standard of customer care at all times.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

NVQ Business Administration L3 or equivalent experience. RSA /OCR level 2 or equivalent experience (must be a proficient user of Microsoft word.

Desirable

AMSPAR - City & Guilds L3. NVQ Customer Service L3.

Experience

Essential

Knowledge of a range of administrative processes. Experience of working in a busy office environment. .

Desirable

Experience of working within the NHS.

Skills

Essential

Competently communicates professionally and effectively with all levels of staff both verbally and in writing. Proficient in use of Microsoft office applications.
