The Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance is central to driving the change necessary to implement the recommendations within the NHS Long Term Plan and Lancashire and South Cumbria Health and Care Partnership Strategy. Key areas for improvement include:

Prevention and public health Early diagnosis Better treatment Supporting people living with and beyond cancer New approaches to the commissioning and provision of cancer services.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the role is to provide senior transformation and project management skills within the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance. The post holder will be responsible for the development, management, and implementation of key Primary Care & Early Diagnosis projects to support delivery of the Cancer Alliance objectives and priorities identified within NHS England's Planning Guidance. They will work across the health economy at pan-organisational level.

The Senior Project Manager is a senior leadership role which will oversee transformation projects within Lancashire and South Cumbria.

The role will require extensive knowledge and experience of working with general practice and primary care networks. Strong project management skills and experience of working with clinical and non-clinical teams across primary, secondary, and tertiary care to deliver transformation projects is necessary for this role.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will support a project team and be responsible for the deployment of human resources and other project resources. The post holder will manage some aspects of budget associated with areas of responsibility. The post holder will work with significant autonomy and be expected to exercise advanced decision-making skills.

Key work areas will include:

Oversight and co-ordination of the Cancer Alliance Primary Care & Early Diagnosis programme of work

Project management and day to day running of one or more large scale transformation projects.

Setting up and planning of the project(s) including project steering groups, project assurance function and any project teams, including project documentation using Prince 2 methodologies

Identifying and managing the risks associated with each project.

Maintaining knowledge of local, regional and national projects that are current and pending.

Providing expert project management advice and support to other staff and teams within the Cancer Alliance and partner organisations.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Extensive knowledge and experience of working with general practice and primary care networks Knowledge and experience across a range of relevant areas including finance, people management and programme management Wide ranging experience of leading major change initiatives through to successful delivery, relating to quality, cost, and timescales.

Desirable

Knowledge of the latest national cancer policy agenda and the opportunities for improvement in patient care presented by it. Demonstrable, recent experience in a performance improvement role in health or social care or similar sector.

Qualifications

Good overall educational preparation Degree/Post Graduate level qualification or significant equivalent management experience Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Desirable

Project management qualification, or equivalent experience in programme delivery/PMO-type role Formal leadership qualification
