THE Production TEAM are hiring a skilled and reliable Dresser to join the wardrobe team for an award-winning theatre production in Birmingham. This is a short-term contract role, covering the period from 3rd December to 27th December.

You will support the existing team during this time to ensure the smooth execution of costume changes and maintenance for the show’s performances. If you are experienced, proactive, and able to integrate quickly into the established team, you may be the ideal candidate

Your responsibilities will include:

Pre-Show Duties:

                •              Collaborate with the wardrobe team to organize and prepare costumes and accessories.

                •              Inspect all costumes for wear and tear, coordinating with the wardrobe supervisor for necessary repairs.

                •              Set up dressing rooms, quick-change areas, and backstage stations with all required costumes and tools.

                •              Participate in briefings to understand daily show requirements or any specific costume needs.

During the Show:

                •              Provide hands-on assistance to performers with costume changes, ensuring speed, accuracy, and discretion.

                •              Execute quick changes backstage efficiently, maintaining costume integrity and timing.

                •              Monitor costumes for malfunctions during the performance and address issues promptly.

                •              Maintain clear communication with the wardrobe team and stage management to ensure seamless transitions.

Post-Show Duties:

                •              Collect and inspect all costumes after each performance for damage or wear.

                •              Reset costumes and accessories for the next performance or rehearsal.

                •              Ensure costumes are properly stored or sent for cleaning or repairs as necessary.

Wardrobe Maintenance:

                •              Carry out basic costume repairs (e.g., sewing, steaming, ironing) as needed.

                •              Assist in laundering or coordinating the cleaning of costumes according to care instructions.

                •              Track costume inventory and report missing or damaged items to the wardrobe supervisor.

Team Integration:

                •              Work collaboratively with the existing wardrobe team to ensure consistency and efficiency.

                •              Support performers with professionalism and sensitivity, fostering a positive backstage environment.

                •              Adapt to any changes in costume requirements or show demands during the contract period.

Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience in professional theatre productions or similar wardrobe roles; large-scale theatre or musical production experience is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in costume repair, garment care, and executing quick changes under pressure.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong teamwork and communication skills; professionalism and discretion when working with performers.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, stand for long periods, and manage costume equipment; availability for evening, weekend, and holiday performances.
  • Attributes: Calm under pressure, excellent time management, adaptable, and detail-oriented to maintain high production standards.
  • Working Conditions: Evening and weekend work required in a collaborative backstage environment; fixed-term contract with possible additional hours during rehearsals.
