Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and forward thinking Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Rehabilitation and Recovery service based at Hertford House, situated on the Birmingham/ Solihull border. Hertford House is a male only unit of ten beds and two independent assessment flats. Service users have severe and enduring mental illness but are all engaged actively in rehabilitation plans that focus on them 'living their best life' with or without symptoms and with a view toward independent living. The unit recognises the importance of engagement and motivation in recovery and OT plays an important role in care planning. The OT staff within our STR service are engaged in QI projects looking at improving service users and families experience of services and are actively engaged in service improvements at all levels.

Main duties of the job

As the OT in the team, you will have responsibility to assess and develop OT intervention , using a range of assessment and guidelines, including MOHOST and formulations. You will have the direct support of a Band 7 Lead OT, OT Consultant, other Band 6 STR staff and activity worker.

Qualification

Essential

Has HCPC registration as an occupational therapist

Desirable

Has listed evidence of training post graduation, to include mandatory training but also evidence of additional training in clinical skills or leadership

Experience

Essential

Has experience of work within mental health settings or in a previous role where mental health awareness is evidenced. Application demonstrates some insight into the difficulties and needs of this client group and how OT may contribute to their recovery and rehabilitation

Desirable

Application demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the role of OT with this client group and is able to communicate clearly issues for service users, carers, families. Evidence of detailed assessment skills, participation in team formulation and collaborative planning is clearly documented. Candidate is clear about role but willing to take a lead and responsibility where needed. Is able to describe support and supervision offered to colleagues, students of all professional groups and support staff

Personal skills and qualities

Essential

Is able to work independently with minimal supervision. Manages time effectively. This includes the necessary updating of all clinical records and reports in a timely manner and within Trust and National requirements. Accesses supervision and maintains links with all professional forums independently

Desirable

Is able to use initiative and develop bespoke services within unit based on unit needs, in discussion with senior OT staff and team manager. Is able to demonstrate leadership skills, works well with others and demonstrates good communication skills based on self description
