Job summary

We are excited to offer this senior pharmacist role leading our north network pharmacy services. The postholder will be responsible for the pharmacy service and pharmacy team covering Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, Bury and Oldham. They will lead the management and development of the pharmacy service to the North Network with a focus on ensuring quality clinical pharmacy services are adequately aligned to patient need. Additionally they will work clinically in one of the localities ensuring standards of clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation are high across all services.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties & Responsibilities To lead the clinical pharmacy service and its staff within the North network to ensure a high standard of service is available and delivered to wards, teams and services. To be responsible for strategically developing, planning and organising the clinical pharmacy service working with lead clinical pharmacists across all the North network including Bury, Oldham and HMR hubs To manage and participate in the delivery of a clinical pharmacy service to adult, old age and RHSD services within the North Network of Pennine Care NHSFT To deliver the medicines optimisation strategy and monitor the delivery of agreed outcomes To provide a highly specialist mental health clinical pharmacy service and act as a role model and supervisor for other clinical pharmacist In clinical situations, to manage complex and ambiguous pharmaceutical problems, tolerate uncertainty and make decisions autonomously with limited information. To provide training to junior pharmacy staff, medical staff and nursing staff across Pennine Care NHSFT as required

About us

The pharmacy team is a purely clinical team based at sites across the whole of the Pennine Care footprint. The team includes pharmacists and technicians embedded in all services such in-patients, community teams and home treatment teams and leads for specialist areas such as CAMHS . The pharmacy team also incudes a medicines information service, research and innovation and EPMA pharmacy team.

As a member of the team you will be encouraged to develop the service and yourself College of Mental Health Pharmacy credentialing and have opportunity for further education and research. You will be provided with regular supervision and CPD opportunities and will in turn support the development of the pharmacy service. In your lead role you will be a key member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team.

Clinical

To act as a clinical role model for clinical pharmacists working in the North Network and demonstrate the ability to provide safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of medicines in patients across all North network services

To provide highly specialist clinical pharmacy services to wards and departments

To demonstrate expert clinical knowledge

To plan, manage, monitor and review therapeutic programmes

To enhance and monitor the quality of patient care

To conduct clinical pharmacy visits in designated areas

To attend consultant ward rounds/ multidisciplinary team meetings to advise on medicines related issues

To manage difficult and ambiguous problems

To make decisions with limited information

To demonstrate an intuitive grasp of situations based on deep understanding

To demonstrate a whole-system patient-focused approach

To demonstrate advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement

To participate in the prescription monitoring and attendance on consultant ward rounds

To liaise with other clinical pharmacists to ensure efficient transfer of medicines-related care

To advise patients on their medication and answer medicine-related enquires

To act when appropriate as consultee to the Mental Health Act (MHA) Second Opinion Appointed Doctors (SOAD)

To be support the safe and appropriate supply of clozapine and to work closely with the clozapine clinic

To ensure the quality and accuracy of work is maintained despite frequent interruptions

To identify and analyse the risks involved in the North Network services.

To act as a non medical prescriber

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

Current member of the General Pharmaceutical Council Masters degree in Pharmacy (or pre-2000 equivalent) Evidence of CPD and commitment to life-long learning Relevant post graduate qualification, Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent experience) Relevant management qualification or equivalent experience Experience in a number of areas of psychiatric pharmacy practice Experience in initiating, leading and implementing change and new developments Experience of training and supporting other members of staff of all disciplines Previous experience of providing medicines management advice or support Experience of people management Experience of resource management Experience of developing guidelines / protocols Experience of influencing and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders/clinicians Experience of training healthcare professionals both individually and in groups Experience of working with clinicians and second-opinion doctors within the Mental Health Act
