Job summary

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT TO NOVEMBER 2026 TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN APPLYING FOR THE SECONDMENT POSITION, YOU MUST OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM YOUR CURRENT LINE MANAGER PRIOR TO APPLYING FOR THIS POST.

Are you interested in the application of systems thinking tools and methods to public health? Do you want to make a difference to health and well-being in Wales? Do you enjoy working in a small team?

This is a unique opportunity to join the Wider Determinants of Health Unit Team in Public Health Wales to support the delivery of a new innovative initiative funded by the Health Foundation's Shaping Places grant funding programme.

The programme will support Public Services Boards to apply systems-based approaches to influencing the wider determinants of health, to learn from each other and make the most of their Well-being Plans. The programme will do this through establishing learning cohorts across Wales, who will apply these methods, learn, and share the learning across Wales and with other UK nations.

The wider determinants of health are the social, environmental and economic factors that affect health and well-being. The Wider Determinants of Health Unit is an ambitious team whose mission is to maximise the influence of the public health system by translating evidence, building capability and coordinating networks of influence.

Main duties of the job

You will be working with a small programme team with support from experienced public health professionals in the Wider Determinants of Health Unit.

The role involves supporting the Principal Applied Systems Thinking Practitioner to develop and manage local, regional and national senior stakeholder relationships within a complex environment

The postholder will work with the Principal to establish three national learning cohorts and to deliver an Applied Systems Learning Cohorts Framework. The postholder will be responsible for developing programme resources, providing facilitation support and contributing to report writing and the dissemination of the learning from the programme.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Public Health Practitioner early in their career who is interested in developing knowledge and skills in systems-based approaches and gaining experience working with partners at a national level.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
