We are looking for CBT Therapists to join our friendly and innovative Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service.

This is an exciting time to be involved in Early Intervention, with national recognition of the effectiveness of the model leading to plans to expand and enhance the care that we provide. The role offers excellent professional development; including access to expert clinical supervision, specialist teaching and training to support development of skills in working with people at risk of developing psychosis and First Episode Psychosis (FEP).

The posts are within teams across the Pennine Care footprint to the east of Manchester. There are five Early Intervention Teams all achieving ‘top performing’ at the National Clinical Audit of Psychosis (NCAP) . The organisation has secured additional investment to expand the psychological therapies service to people 14-35, with an at-risk mental state (ARMS).

Main duties of the job

You will be providing a specialist CBT service to promote recovery and valued living for people with ARMS, FEP and their carers. Delivering high quality psychology assessments, formulation, interventions and consultation; providing supervision and guidance to MDT colleagues to facilitate psychological thinking and interventions throughout the service, which includes the following:

  • To be responsible for the delivery of CBT to clients within the EIS Service
  • To collaborate closely with MDT colleagues in providing a biopsychosocial treatment programme for clients with ARMS and FEP
  • To support the delivery of Family Intervention
  • To assist the lead clinician in coordinating referrals to therapies within EIS and to ensure waiting times are managed effectively within Trust guidelines
  • To provide a CBT perspective within the team and provide consultation to MDT colleagues
  • To carry out service-related development and project work under the direction of the lead psychological therapist
  • To supervise and teach unqualified staff including student
  • The postholder will be expected to work flexibly within the service

Person specification Education and Qualifications Essential criteria
  • Qualification in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to Post-graduate Diploma level and Accreditation with the BABCP (or working towards accreditation via KSF route or equivalent)
  • Further short courses and experience to Masters Level
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
Desirable criteria
  • Core Mental Health Professional qualification
  • Post graduate qualification in CBT for Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder
  • Supervisor qualifications
Experience Essential criteria
  • Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients
  • Experience of CBT assessment and therapy of clients in adult Mental Health settings
  • Has received training (either formal of through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice
  • Significant experience of clinical work in mental health covering clients with a range of complex presentations and across the age range
  • Significant experience of receiving CBT supervision
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist experience of working with clients with severe and enduring mental health problems
  • Experience of working in a MDT
  • Experience of the application of CBT in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of teaching, training and /or supervision
  • Experience of providing/working in therapeutic groups
Knowledge Essential criteria
  • A high level of knowledge about evidence based psychological therapies (including cognitive behaviour therapy and family intervention) for psychosis and anxiety disorders
  • A high level of knowledge and expertise about Early Intervention for Psychosis
  • Knowledge about applying and adapting cognitive behaviour therapy to adolescents
Desirable criteria
  • A high level of knowledge about the evidence base for interventions for an At Risk Mental State and the prevention of the development of serious mental health problems
Skills and Abilities Essential criteria
  • The ability to work effectively in a multi disciplinary team
  • High level of clinical skills to apply evidence based psychological interventions to a range of presenting problems in adolescents and adults

  • Experience of delivering service presentations and liaison to outside agencies to encourage referrals
