Having great communication skills and the adaptability to use different strategies to tailor care around an individual's needs is essential in this role. You will be working on two wards alongside B5 OT's and OT assistants as a valuable part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

You will be working across two wards, the rehab ward and the pre discharge ward.

Along with the B5 Occupational Therapist for each ward, you will be responsible for providing the Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions for the service.

You will use the VdTMoCA, model of creative ability to inform your practice and where appropriate standardised assessment tools and outcome measures. You will be provided with training in this model if this is new to you.

You will be clinically supervising and where appropriate mentoring the preceptorship of the B5 Occupational Therapist on each ward and you will be supported by an Occupational Therapy assistant and a Support Time Recovery Worker, who you will also clinically supervise.

Additionally you will have one day a week protected to work with the physical health team within forensics to focus on the safe provision of functional equipment.

You will be part of an active AHP team in the forensic directorate made up of Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Dietetics and will have this network of experience and support to draw on.

Responsibility for a clinical caseload, to be an autonomous practitioner within the team with access to clinical supervision on a regular basis. To ensure that all assessments regarding occupational need and performance are completed. To carry out assessments including gathering complex information from clients, carers and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. This may include the use of specialist standardised and non-standardised assessment tools, verbal and non-verbal communication skills and observation of the client and their environment. It may also involve carrying out assessments jointly with other professionals. To contribute to the overall care plan using effective Occupational Therapy treatment programmes and negotiate and communicate these with the client, family, carers and other members of the treatment team. To contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings/care and treatment planning contributing the specialist Occupational Therapy perspective. To participate in managerial supervision to maintain best practice. To support and supervise Occupational Therapy staff. Providing support to prescribers across the directorate with regards to functional equipment and Assistive Technology related issues

Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

Dip COT or degree in Occupational Therapy HCPC Registered Member of professional body and specialist section.

Desirable

PPE Qualification Higher degree/relevant post graduate training

EXPERIENCE

Essential

Experience as a senior clinician in speciality developing services that are clinical governance driven and patient focused. At least 4 years relevant experience as an Occupational Therapist Experience of managing and prioritising a clinical caseload

Desirable

2 years qualified experience within the speciality Evidence of leading clinical audit

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
