Job summary

Following the recent career progression of our valued CAP we have two exciting opportunities for an Apprentice Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP) to join our older people's mental health service in East Suffolk or our CMHT for adults with mental health difficulties based in West Suffolk.

Throughout and beyond your apprenticeship you will work closely with the existing psychology team (including 2 clinical psychologists, another CAP, a CBTp therapist and an assistant psychologist) as well as the wider multidisciplinary team.

West Suffolk CMHT CAP 1 x hour pw opportunity

The post covers the geographical area of West Suffolk, with bases in Bury St Edmund's, Sudbury and Haverhill.

East Suffolk Older Persons CAP 1 x hour pw opportunity

The post covers the geographical area of East Suffolk, with bases in Ipswich and Stowmarket.

Main duties of the job

The duties of a Clinical Associate Psychologist could include:

Undertaking appropriate clinical work under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, including the provision of psychological assessment, formulation, individual and group interventions.

Active participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, case discussion and formulation meetings.

Involvement in development of policies and project work in collaboration with appropriate team colleagues, including the development of our current psychologically informed service offers.

Data gathering for audit and research purposes link.

Training, and consultation.

The successful candidate will be supported to undertake duties in line with the above during their training and will be given the necessary support and supervision will be to complete the these duties and develop into the role.

The Apprenticeship post involves undertaking a Master's level course at the University of East Anglia. This is typically a blended course with approximately 75% of sessions delivered online and the remainder delivered in person at UEA. Attendance at all UEA teaching days is compulsory, and annual leave cannot be booked for UEA teaching days. Accepting a place on the CAPS course had implications for the funding of future NHSE courses.

The apprenticeship is at band 5, increasing to band 6 upon successful qualification.

Please note you must be able to provide proof of English and Maths at a grade of level 2 (C) or above to be accepted for this post.

Successful applicants must be able to start in post on or before 27th August 2024.

Discuss observation or understanding of cognitive-behavioural and other psychological assessment methods used within applied clinical practice to underpin assessment

Qualifications

Essential

Level 2 qualifications in English and Mathematics (eg. GCSE pass grade 9 to 4 or A* to C) Bachelors degree in Psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) as conferring Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBS), or Bachelors degree plus master degree, or PGDip in Psychology accredited by the BPS as conferring GBC (minimum 2:2)
