Manston, United Kingdom MTC Full time

The vacancy

MTC is dedicated to providing detainees with a safe, clean and decent environment on site, maintaining effective, discreet security protocols to protect our staff and those in our care. Our staff culture promotes respect for, and engagement with, our detainees: we believe that this drives a strong, productive and positive culture in our facilities, supported by a fully engaged corporate team.

What can we offer you?

We are ambitious. We are innovative. We care. Our focus is on transforming the lives of detained people in our care, by providing quality and timely services to those most in need. We have a culture that promotes respect and empathy for all detainees and colleagues alike.

MTC have some fantastic benefits to offer our employees. We care about your wellbeing, so we offer a ‘wellbeing day’ each year, as well as free counselling and support via our Employee Assistance Provider. We offer a pension up to 10%, Life Assurance, cycle to work scheme and fast-track development opportunities.

The role

You will support the Contract Manager by leading daily site operations; managing our team of Detention Custody Managers, monitoring progress to ensure care and welfare of the detained persons is maintained at all times. You will develop and lead an operational function and be responsible and accountable for success within this area.

As part of the Senior Management Team you’ll build strong, supportive relationships with individuals in your team and detained persons alike, providing governance, guidance and understanding at all times. Ensuring staff records, including time sheets and training are completed and available for review.

You will be responsible for a critical area of operations as well as the MTC budget, taking responsibility for a specific specialist area of delivery/compliance, as requested by the Contract Manager. You'll create, review and continually improve polices and processes pertaining to your area of responsibility, ensuring consistency of documents and application of processes at our site. You will provide a timely operational overview of information for the Contract Manager to create reports for review by the governance board.

Experience and Skills Required

Experience of leading an operational team in line with contract specifications; setting clear expectations, KPIs and objectives for all employees on site. Performance management of individuals and processes to ensure continuous improvement. You will demonstrate high levels of human empathy, be a caring and compassionate individual who takes responsibility for their actions and is committed to supporting our service user group. You'll have strong leadership, delegation, communication, influencing and interpersonal skills, with a track record of promoting equality and anti-discriminatory practice through service provision. You'll be able to interpret and deescalate conflict verbally and without the need for use of force, unless truly necessary. Experience of delivering high performing and outcome-focused services and programmes in a target driven outsourced contract environment. Action focused, target driven and have an ability to inspire and motivate teams. Proven experience of managing teams to deliver a 24/7 service. Experience of working with high-risk or vulnerable people would be beneficial, as well as experience of working in teams (ideally with a range of partners and stakeholders) to promote positive behaviour and reduce anxieties amongst a vulnerable service user group. Previous experience of working in a secure environment and ability to perform well under pressure are desirable.

Requirement to undergo Counterterrorism (CTC) clearance is essential for this role – the postholder must meet the eligibility criteria.

Our recruitment process

MTC is committed to fairly and inclusively assessing all applicants, first and foremost on the basis of their skills and suitability for a role. We will only ask about any criminal records at the appropriate time in the assessment process and in line with the level of vetting determined for the role. We truly believe that individuals can turn their lives around and MTC supports individuals to ‘Be the Difference’ and transform their lives and the lives of others.

The company

We focus on transforming lives and making a difference through education, training and employment (ETE).
