Brief Description

Within this role, you will be part of the North West & Central Region, working for the Central Route.

The Central route covers a major part of the national rail network, with hundreds of thousands of passengers, and thousands of tonnes of freight carried within our route each week. Within our route is the Chiltern Main Line between London Marylebone and the West Midlands, the Snow Hill line from Stratford-upon-Avon to Worcester, the Cross City line in Birmingham, and lines to other cities including Wolverhampton, Coventry, Walsall, and Oxford.

We also have big plans under way in the Central route. The planned HS2 railway includes stops in Birmingham and Solihull, providing much-needed additional capacity on the rail network and faster journeys for passengers. East West Rail will also re-establish a rail link between Cambridge and Oxford and improve connectivity within the region.

About the role (External)

You will be on hand to provide advice and support to the Maintenance teams on all workforce health, safety and environmental issues. Integrating yourself into the maintenance area will enable you to build relationships with the teams and local TU representatives, promoting a positive cultural and behavioural change in all aspects of workforce health, safety and environmental management.

Communication is important, providing briefings and instructions to teams where required.

Data analysis is a key part of the role, looking for trends, producing reports and making recommendations for corrective actions.

Conducting site visits with maintenance teams to carry out assurance activities and proactively develop, coach and support them on all workforce health, safety and environmental matters.

Being the key point of contact for Health, Safety & Environment you will also be supporting and advising senior management on the investigation and reporting of accidents and incidents and the Formal Investigation Process.

You will support the implementation of local and national programmes and initiatives to improve workforce health, safety and environmental control.

In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:

·National Examination Board in Occupational Safety & Health (NEBOSH) Certificate

·Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes

·Knowledge of relevant standards and procedures

·Knowledge of environmental management system

·Knowledge of operational railway environment

·Analytical capability

·Local Accident & Incident Investigation

·Knowledge of coaching techniques

·Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills

It’s not mandatory to have the below, but it would be desirable to have:

·NEBOSH diploma

·Membership of a relevant professional body

·Institute of Environmental Management Award (IEMA)
