Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed salaried GP to work between 6 and 8 sessions per week over a minimum of three days ( Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday ). You will also need to be available to join the weekly practice clinical meeting from every Thursday, although this could be done remotely.

This is a maternity locum role, fixed term for 12 months.

Brockwell Park Surgery is a forward-thinking GP practice with a strong focus on patient access. All GP appointment are 15 minutes long as standard.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will manage a patient caseloadand deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuringthe highest standards of care for all registered patients. Responsibilitieswill reflect requirements of the NHS GP Contracts, and as such may be subjectto change as services adapt.

In accordance with the practice rota, thepost-holder will undertake a variety of duties including face to face and telephoneconsultations, as well as a share of duty doctor cover, online consultations (viaAccurx), and document management (via Docman). Our duty doctor shifts run daily from and ; you must be available to cover at least one of these shifts per week.

You will be required to work as an autonomouspractitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the diversepractice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilstcomplying with the GMS contract and GMC standards for good medical practice.

BrockwellPark Surgery is a friendly training practice located close to HerneHill station. The surgery has a strong, longstanding ethos to providefirst-rate patient care.

Thepractice is led by an enthusiastic and proactive team of three GP partners whoare involved on a day-to-day basis with the running of the practice, eachtaking a role in management and supported by a practice manager. In additionthere are currently seven salaried GPs, trainee doctors, two practice nurses, apharmacist, physiotherapists, social prescribers, and a team of receptionists andadministrators.

We are particularlyproud of our beautiful garden which is a haven for our staff and patients. Thepractice runs a garden therapy project, to support the wellbeing ofpatients.

JOB SUMMARY

You will be required to work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the diverse practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract and GMC standards for good medical practice.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical responsibilities:

Undertaking face to face, telephone and online consultations and queries, visiting patients at home Generating, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, results, tasks, and correspondence in a timely fashion Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health Providing counselling and health education Managing patients within the wider MDT Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards Collecting data for audit purposes Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. Completion of private referrals and NHS letters Actively engaging in maximising the QoF points for the practice at each contact with patients when appropriate. Contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Health & safety

The post-holder will implement and lead on a full range of promotion and management their own and others health and safety and infection control as defined in the practice health & safety policy and the practice infection control policy and published procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):

o Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice

o guidelines

o Awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines

o Adhering to the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements

o Correct personal use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring correct use of PPE by others, advising on appropriate circumstances for use by clinicians, staff and patients.

o Hand hygiene standards for self and others

o Awareness of the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks across clinical and patient process

o Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills, undertaking annual mandatory infection control training

o Safe management of sharps use, storage and disposal

o Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean, sterile, and safe way, free from hazards. Initiation of remedial / corrective action where needed or escalation to responsible management

o Actively identifying, reporting, and correction of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised

o Correct waste and instrument management including handling, segregation, and container use
