Research Advisor
Through our portfolio of active research projects, we fund some of the most exciting and innovative cardiovascular research and the most talented scientists from PhD students to BHF Professors.
You’ll work primarily in supporting all aspects of fellowship funding including advising applicants, reviewing applications for funding, and providing feedback to applicants. You’ll carry out due diligence of project proposals and funded projects and support the Fellowships Committee peer review processes and meetings.
You’ll work closely with the Senior Research Advisors, Research Grants Manager and Research Grants Officers during funding cycles and grant applications and awards.
Please note we have two opportunities available in the team. Whilst the duties in each role will be the same, the roles will focus on slightly different areas. One will support our portfolio work in Clinical, the other will focus on Basic science. As part of your application please state which one you’d like to be considered for.
Working arrangements
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.
At BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least one day each week, on average. The use of our office spaces is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.
About you
With a knowledge and understanding of BHF, our mission, and the importance of research, you’ll have substantial research experience gained in academia and/or a similar industry. You’ll be a proactive member of the team possessing outstanding attention to detail, analytical and interpersonal skills.
With excellent communication, prioritisation, and organisational skills you’ll be able to meet multiple deadlines. You’ll serve as an ambassador for BHF and its research achievements, promoting BHF and its research funding schemes.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a motivated person with suitable experience and interests to make an important contribution to the primary mission of one of the world's leading funders of cardiovascular research.
In addition, you will also have the following:
•PhD or equivalent in a biomedical science discipline
•Understanding of basic science and clinical careers
•Experience of cardiovascular or related research at either doctoral or postdoctoral research. Experience of supporting clinicians in an NHS R&D role, or similar environment would be beneficial for the clinical role
•Experience of research grant evaluation and administration
•Able to interpret complex research data and communicate it to lay audiences
•For the clinical role, knowledge of clinical career paths and/or the specific needs and difficulties of clinician scientists
•For the basic science role, understanding of career trajectory within academia, and of the main areas where support would be beneficial
About us
Every single one of us is vulnerable to the heartbreak caused by heart and circulatory diseases – they are the world’s biggest killers. But the research we fund represents hope. And nothing matters more than finding cures and treatments that give us more time with the people we love.
We value and respect every individual’s unique contribution, celebrate diversity, and make inclusion part of what we do every day.
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy, Igniting Change, along with our internal EDI group, Kaleidoscope, and a growing number of employee network groups (our Affinity Groups), help us create an environment where all our colleagues and volunteers can succeed.
What can we offer you?
We offer excellent benefits including 30 days annual leave, private medical insurance, dental health cover, pension, and flexible working. We commit to actively developing you and offer learning and development opportunities to support, inspire and help you unlock your full potential.
Interview process
First stage interviews will be held over Microsoft Teams w/c 30th September, which will include a presentation. A second in person interview might be required and held at our London offices.
How to apply
It’s quick and easy to apply for a role at BHF. Just click on the apply button below. All you’ll need is an up to date CV and a supporting statement, outlining your interest in the role and how you meet the role’s criteria.
As part of our commitment to be an inclusive employer and ensure fairness and consistency in selecting the best candidate for this role, BHF will use anonymous CV software as part of the application journey.
Early application is encouraged as we will review applications throughout the advertising period and reserve the right to close the advert early.
