Behavior Support Assistant

Location: Various SEN Specialist Settings across Surrey

Start Date: September 2024

Job Description: We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Psychology graduates to join our team as Behavior Support Assistants in our SEN specialist settings. As a Behavior Support Assistant, you will work closely with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Dyslexia, and other complex needs, to support their behavioral, emotional, and social development.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement behavior management strategies and interventions designed to support students with SEN, in collaboration with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other professionals.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, helping them to develop positive behaviors and social skills.
  • Assist in the assessment and monitoring of students' behavior, progress, and wellbeing, and contribute to the development of individual behavior support plans.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to supporting students' needs.
  • Support students in developing coping strategies and techniques to manage challenging behaviors and regulate emotions.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe, valued, and supported.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Psychology or related field.
  • Experience working with individuals with SEN or challenging behaviors, preferably in an educational or therapeutic setting, is desired but not essential.
  • Knowledge of behavior management principles and strategies, with an understanding of how they can be applied to support individuals with diverse needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for making a positive difference in the lives of individuals with SEN.
