Job summary

As Head of NHS Commercial Interventions, the post holder will within the NHS England Central Commercial Function (CCF), and as a key part of the NHS Commercial Interventions Team.

Our Team's remit is the development and oversight of commercial activities, solutions and projects that meet the need of various problems and challenges across the NHS Trust, Foundation Trust and ICS/ICB buying landscapes.

The core current Team activity is providing NHSE oversight and expertise across the Framework's Workstream of the Commercial Efficiencies Optimisation Programme (CEOP), and this is a great opportunity to step into this workstream, as it concludes the first phase of the Framework Host Organisation Accreditation scheme, and moves into prioritising the next set of Framework Category specific activities, across the range of NHS third party spend.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Commercial Innovations will have the following responsibilities and require the following capabilities to undertake their role:1) Providing policy and strategic direction or intervention across the ICS/ICB and trust procurement landscape nationally, enabling and facilitating collaborative groups and activities that create change and resolution and deliver value for money and improved patient care;2) Support the Associate Director of NHS Commercial Interventions in the development and socialisation of prioritisation methodology matrix that supports the ambition of point 1 above, and ensures that the prioritisation is understood by all stakeholders;3) Support the Associate Director in the creation and realisation of commissioned resourcing proposals and associated business funding cases, to ensure that delivery of prioritised activities can be enabled and facilitated through the most appropriate specialised teams from within the wider NHS commercial family;4) Support the Associate Director in the development and management of a governance model that ensures delivery and realisation of the above ambitions, and holds assigned or commissioned partner teams to account for delivery of these.

Educated to master's level or equivalent level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

In depth additional expert knowledge acquired over a significant period of time in the following area(s): Commercial and/or procurement, operational management in one of the category areas stated below, executive level and C-Suite influencing skills, and Private or Public Sector transformation. Subject matter expertise across a number of key areas relating to Digital & Technology, Estates & Facilities, Transport, Workforce and Clinical Services & Purchased Healthcare Proven and significant leadership experience and/or formal management qualification

Essential

Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health, the NHS England and individual provider and commissioning organisations. Highly developed communication skills with the ability to communicate on highly complex matters and difficult situations. Ability to provide and receive, convey, and present highly complex, sensitive and/or contentious information to large groups, responding openly to questions to ensure full understanding and engagement. Ability to demonstrate a high level of expertise in providing senior leadership and to work on own initiative and organise workload, allocating work as necessary, working to tight and often changing deadlines.
