Job Overview

This post offers an exciting opportunity to gain training and experience in Oncology (both clinical and medical oncology) and Medical Education. The aim of this post is to further develop and improve teaching of Undergraduate medical students within South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Applications are invited from registered medical practitioners for a Teaching Fellowship, jointly supervised by the clinical collaborative and the Undergraduate Department within The James Cook University Hospital, South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Close collaboration and flexible working between the two directorates is integral to the appointments, to balance clinical and teaching commitments.

Successful candidates must be fully registered medical practitioners who have successfully completed Foundation Programme or have equivalent training. The post holder will be given the opportunity to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education. The post is for 12 months and is on an appropriate Locally Employed doctor salary scale.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties of the job

The award of the Teaching Fellowship will allow the post-holder to deliver and develop undergraduate teaching at all levels at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites with a specific focus on Oncology.

There will be a significant clinical component working on the oncology ward and participating in the SHO oncology rota. Clinic sessions are offered as ward staffing allows. There may be an opportunity to learn about radiotherapy planning and be involved in audits.

The teaching component of the role will be one day each week working in the undergraduate department.

The post holder will also be expected to contribute to mentoring and supervising medical students on a regular basis as well as contributing to end of stage examinations and in-course assessments.
