Job summary

We are looking to appoint a highly specialised paediatric orthopaedic physiotherapist based at The Royal London. You will be joining a Barts wide Paediatric Orthopaedic department with consultant surgeons.

This is a new role with a focus on further developing the developmental hip dysplasia (DDH) service at Barts Health including the Royal London hospital, Whipps Cross and Newham hospital. There is an established team including paediatric orthopaedic surgeons and an advanced practice physiotherapist who will support the growth and development of this service. The Highly Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist will be accountable for the provision of a high-quality service for patients taken from the Consultant's waiting list/referral pathway acting as a first point of contact in Paediatric Orthopaedics and within this tertiary care setting.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work autonomously as well as within an MDT using expert skills to provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment. They will be supported in using specialist skills and diagnostic tools (particularly ultrasound and xray). Specialist assessment, treatment, clinical reasoning skills will be required. There will be support and guidance from the Advanced Practice Physiotherapist and the Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants to assist in the formulation of diagnoses, defining and implementing individualized programs of care to patients. They will work in collaboration with Orthopaedic Consultants, Allied Health Professionals and members of the Medical and Administrative teams.

The post holder will be responsible for triaging referrals and making onward referrals as needed. The post holder will have a key role in further developing and improving pathways and databases with our central appointments office and with referring centres.

The post holder will offer a variety of appointment types including face to face consultations, outreach consultations, telephone and video liaisons. They will be involved in the further development of clinics.

The post holder will be a vital member of the multidisciplinary team providing specialist assessment, treatment and monitoring for patients with Musculoskelatal conditions, Normal variants, Developmental Hip Dysplasia.

oDegree/Equivalent in Physiotherapy State Registration oEvidence of continuing professional development and significant and relevant post graduate study

Experience

Specialist post graduate experience in paediatric orthopaedics and/or musculoskeletal care Previous experience working within clinic settings Triage experience Experience of service evaluation, clinical audit and service development Experience of supervising / appraising staff Self motivation Previous experience writing formal reports on therapy intervention and liaising with an MDT team

Clinical experience within the NHS as an autonomous practitioner
