Our Elderly Care unit is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, flexible individual to join and support our nursing team on ward 17. We are a large established 32 bed ward with a team who are devoted to continually improving the quality of care that enhances our patient’s experience. It’s a busy and fast flowing area, but we work together as a team, supporting each other and ensuring everyone is developed to be the best version of themselves.

We are therefore looking for experienced registered nurse to join our team. You must be able to lead, support and motivate a team to provide the highest quality patient care and show evidence of effective leadership, organisational and communication skills. If you are eager to learn or continuing to develop new skills in elderly care, then this role is for you come along for an informal visit or alternatively contact our ward manager or matron for an informal chat.

Main duties of the job

As part of your role, you will support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse or Matron in ensuring the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients, relatives and visitors who are cared for within or by the ward, department, service, or team.

You will ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence-based guidelines.

You will act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team, and the organisation. You will also be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse or Matron in ensuring the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients, relatives and visitors who are cared for within or by the ward, department, service, or team. Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence- based guidelines. Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes. Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team, and the organisation. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff. Set, monitor, and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Communicates all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care.

Qualifications and Education

Essential criteria

Appropriate NMC Registration Diploma or Degree in Nursing NMC recognised Mentorship qualification Evidence of continuing professional education or development in area of speciality

Desirable criteria

Degree Post registration qualification in area of speciality area

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

Evidence of leadership experience and learning. Awareness of recent advances within Nursing practice Knowledge of Clinical Governance and safeguarding and the relevance to practice Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures Experience of implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice Knowledge of Ethical issues

Desirable criteria

Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality eg surgery Knowledge of Research and Development
