Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

The group of Prof Teuta Pilizota at the University of Cambridge seeks to appoint an outstanding researcher to join its effort to understand long-term infectious and inflammatory conditions, such as chronic rhinosinusitis. Long-term infectious and inflammatory conditions, such as chronic rhinosinusitis, are a complex host-pathogen response that is often poorly understood because of the multi-scale nature of the interactions, and numerous physical and biological factors that are involved.

This is an opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers located at the University of Cambridge and at the University of Edinburgh to build new experimental and conceptual frameworks required to gain a predictive understanding of such complex systems. You will have the opportunity to work on a "system" that replicates the main features of chronic rhinosinusitis in a microfluidic device suitable for microscopy imaging. You will also interact with other members of the team working on theoretical and computational approaches needed to both interpret experiments and extrapolate the findings. The success of this project can pave the way for an interdisciplinary understanding of one of the most important interactions in all of biology.

Your skills and attributes for success should include: expertise in working with microfluidic, expertise in rheology, expertise in customized software development for image and data analysis, experience in customised microscopy, basic experience in handling biological samples, the capability of working independently, but in synergy with the rest of the interdisciplinary, and finding the interdisciplinary environment both challenging and motivating.

You will be located at the Department of Physics Cavendish Laboratory JJ Thomson Avenue Cambridge CB3 0HE, UK.

Appointment at research associate level is dependent on having a PhD including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD (in which case appointment will initially be made at research assistant (Grade 5) and amended to research associate (Grade 7) when the PhD is awarded).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 6 November 2025 in the first instance.

The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
