Main duties of the job

As a member of the Education and Training Team, for West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust, the post holder would be responsible for the design and delivery, assessment, monitoring and evaluation of educational courses, the provision of clinical development of Ambulance Service staff.

This would include periods of Operational Work-based training, Continual Professional Development and in house training within the Trust ensuring the development and training needs of staff are met.

You would participate in the delivery of Higher Educational Modules to Level 6, providing in depth technical knowledge and relevant multi-disciplinary practical experiences to staff.

Job responsibilities

TRAINING& DEVELOPMENT

Ensure the development of clinicalskills of staff within a given specified Development Zone of responsibility;ensuring key development performance indicators are met.

Beresponsible for a case load of staff for a given Development Zone, identifyingtraining needs and assessment in liaison with locality managers.

Provideclinical and non-clinical development support to staff in their DevelopmentZone of responsibility, adapting when necessary to assist colleagues in otherDevelopment Zones within the Trust.

Participate in the delivery of HigherEducational modules at Universities within the Region.

Deliver Education and Training qualityassurance mechanisms across the specified Development Zone of responsibilityand others when required.

In liaison with the DivisionalManagement Team ensure that operational mentors are adequately educated andtrained to provide support to staff.

Be familiar with the different learningstyles and behaviours to ensure effective development is achieved.

Undertake driving assessment and drivinginstruction in a range of vehicles under emergency/non-emergency conditions, asrequired.

Undertake the design and devisecontinued development of a wide range of educational packages in accordancewith relevant awarding bodies.

Facilitate the logistical requirementssupporting the delivery of educational courses in varying locations, includingemergency situations to Ambulance and Non Ambulance staff.

Actively ensure that conflictresolution, infection prevention and control, equality & diversity, manualhandling and any other element of training in the annual plan is developed andemployed in the Development Zone.

Provide theoretical/policy informationto other managers and staff based upon an in depth technical knowledge andrelevant multi-disciplinary practical experience assist in recommendations forpolicy-derived decisions.

Assist in the tuition and mentoring oftrainee/seconded Clinical Development Officers, and document in accordance withnational and local policies and procedures.

EVALUATION

Undertake the evaluation, examinationprocess, and assessment of clinical and non-clinical staff to standardsdetermined by relevant awarding bodies, current Health and Safety guidelines,Quality Management systems and Trust policies and procedures.

Ensure the accurate documentation of allevaluations and assessments is compiled and processed in accordance withnational and local policies and procedures.

REPORTING

Design and implement reportingmechanisms to ensure the accurate and up-to-date evaluation and assessment ofstaff.

Ensure that all clinical information isrecorded and maintained in accordance with current National Guidelines andlegislative requirements.

Monitor and record the progress anddevelopment of students throughout the educational process, identifying,dealing with and documenting difficulties encountered by individuals.

Report and document out of hoursincidents for action by the Clinical Education Manager, to include ifappropriate the steps taken towards resolving any difficulties.

Compose student / course reports asappropriate and submit for approval to the Education & Training Manager.

LIAISON

Maintain links and liaise with seniormanagement from other Emergency Services and health care professionals,developing and sharing best practice where appropriate.

Establishes and maintain regular contactwith operational divisional managers/officers to identify the provision ofstudent training needs.

Liaise with EOC officers to ensureclinical responses are being apportioned to facilitate the students bestdevelopment.

OPERATIONAL

Maintains own professional registeredstatus as a paramedic clinician in accordance with the current requirements ofthe Health Professions Council.

Act as scene managers / incidentofficers at incidents or major incidents when required to ensure the safety ofemergency personnel and members of the public and to actively participate inthe dynamic management process of staff on scene.

Perform the full range of operationalParamedic duties either as a crew or as a solo response to emergency or urgentresponses.

Demonstrateclinical and non-clinical practices/skills that require a high degree of manualdexterity within a number of training disciplines development/clinical/intubations.

OTHER

Ensure equipment to be utilised duringthe educational periods is safe and fit for the purpose and carry out minorservicing/assembly manikins.

Maintainspatient derived information in accordance with Caldicott Guidelines and theData Protection Act.

Assist in ensuring building security ismaintained and breaches in security are dealt with in accordance with Trustsecurity policy documents.

Operate and utilise equipment inorder to compile and deliver training packages, in accordance with Trust IM+TPolicies.

Participate in relevant clinical auditsand assist in the implementation of findings, promoting effective andappropriate use of evidence-based practice.

Maintain the Health, Safety and Welfareof students and visitors from other organisations extending beyond the normalhours of duty who are participating in training and/or assessments underhis/her supervision and ensure all staff within their care are aware of and carryout their obligations and responsibilities under the Health & Safety atWork Act.

Ensure students, undergoing trainingand/or assessments adhere to the standards of discipline laid down within thepolicies stipulated by the Trust.

Operate in accordance within currentpolicy guidelines of disciplinary procedure and where standards fall below therequired minimum ensures that these elements are accurately documented, andinformal / formal counselling of the student is applied in accordance withservice policies and procedures in a sympathetic and empathetic manner.

Where requested, participate in clinicalequipment, skills and procedural trials and provide feedback and analysis tothe Trusts Research and Development Committee.
