Brief Description

To lead the efficient delivery of the ‘control a phase products’ within the programme and project lifecycles, which in turn will drive consistent, efficient and predictable delivery.


About the role (External)

Your Main Responsibilities will be to:

1.Provide expert technical knowledge and service in relation to undertaking the ‘control a phase’ elements of the project and programme lifecycles.

2.Lead the integration of the control services within the projects and confirming that the agreed level of service support is available for each project in development and/or delivery.

3.Lead on the management of the change control process within the geographical area to provide effective management of the baselines and associated change control processes.

4.Lead the effective management and execution of the configuration management processes within the project and programme. I.e. inclusion of mitigation activities identified from the QSRA’s within the cost plans and schedules.

5.Identify the critical resource requirements to support the projects and confirm that the supply and demand agreements are established in a timely manner to confirm continuity of resource availability.

6.Lead the evaluation process on all aspects of the project/programme performance to determine the key causes of variance from the plan i.e. formulate corrective action plans with the project delivery teams and monitor effective implementation. 

7.Own and undertake appropriate assurance of the core control deliverables and provide support and guidance to the wider project team.

8.Manage through co-ordination the optimisation of all resources for efficient delivery within your Area of Responsibility including liaising with the delivery teams to make sure the resources are booked as per commercial agreements and within budgets.

9.Maintain, develop, manage and standardise the process, procedures for the management of resources within your area of your responsibility.

10.Manage, collate and analyse data for all stakeholders to provide accurate and timely information in respect to the local KPIs.

You will ideally have

·Proven experience in team management, planning, management support of and delivery of projects.

·Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience.

·Membership (or working towards membership) of an appropriate institution.

·In depth understanding of programme and project controls processes and systems

·Detailed knowledge and experience of investment principles, support disciplines (risk, estimating, planning, cost and value management) and their supporting technology solutions.

·Ability to undertake structured analysis to problems, engage stakeholders and lead the implementation of business-wide solutions.

·Ability to communicate and influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organisation this should include Customers; 3rd party representatives, other business & functional leaders and key support personnel.

·Demonstrable ability to understand and interpret commercial and financial landscapes (budgets, forecasts, actual status)

What could set you apart

·Knowledge of Programme & Project Management techniques such as (APM; Prince 2; GRIP; MSP etc.).

·Knowledge of Network Rail’s assets and how they are managed.

·Successful experience of working in a railway environment.

·Knowledge of access and possession processes and systems

·Experience in report writing, numerical data manipulation and system interrogation / analysis
