Job description

Contract type Permanent 

Location: Bilingsgate Market 

Hours of Work: 35 hour basic week and 6 additional hours contract % uplift. Includes 30 minute unpaid rest break.​

Combining an impressive heritage with modern standards within the City of London and beyond, the City of London Corporation owns and operates three iconic wholesale food markets at Billingsgate (Canary Wharf), New Spitalfields (Stratford) and Smithfield (Farringdon) and has a world-wide reputation as the heart of the UK’s food industry. As a unique and stimulating place to work, it provides and maintains facilities for wholesale by individual traders to retailers, secondary wholesaler, catering suppliers, schools, hotels, restauranteurs, embassies and palaces serving London and beyond. Over a million tons of produce pass through our markets each year. 

We are looking for a motivated individual, to manage a busy and challenging operational delivery environment with a range of maintenance and facilities services. In addition the individual should provide excellent customer service by improving and sustaining key performance standards to keep our markets a vibrant, innovative, profitable and safe place to do business in an iconic capital city.

Your career to date will show that you have significant mechanical and electrical experience and demonstrable achievements in the maintenance and FM arena in tandem with risk management. In addition an understanding of Health & Safety and food hygiene regulations, combined with experience of dealing with commercial tenants and matters relating to landlord and tenant relationships. Strong inter-personal and diplomacy skills are necessary for day to day dealings with high level individuals both within and outside of the organisation and the ability to motivate your own in-house team to achieve high standards. A background in maintenance, facilities or estate management is essential and in addition, the supply chain, or food sectors would be beneficial but are not essential.
