Job summary

East Kent has a busy and exciting programme of simulation -based education and hopes to welcome 6 new simulation fellows to our team by September 2024. You will be trained in operating a range of simulation technologies and in becoming a simulation facilitator, receiving simulation debrief training. You will learn theories of simulation-based education and will receive human factors and non-technical skills training. You will have the opportunity to join expert multi-professional faculties in the delivery of local and regional courses. A significant part of the role will be in coordinating and supporting simulation activities for our medical students and Foundation Programme doctors. You will be involved in anaesthetic crisis resource training and transfer skills training. You will have opportunities to teach and train on simulation in education within the broader Medical Education Department. Other opportunities include: supporting quality improvement initiatives; resilience testing of clinical environments; developing own courses and joining a regional simulation network (Simnet).

Main duties of the job

This is a one-year post and at least 80% of the post holder's time will be spent within the Simulation Department with activities that focus on:

Delivery of the undergraduate simulation curricula (4 different medical schools)

Contributing to the teaching and learning of doctors

Design, coordination and delivery of a wide range of multi-professional simulation courses and activity

Leading on and coordinating the maintenance of and use of clinical skills facilities and resources to support with undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum delivery

Provision of required clinical skills and simulation induction sessions

Taking a lead role in the development and delivery of research into medicaleducation (specifically simulation) that contributes to the Department's overall vision and strategy

Actively contributing to the design, development, piloting and evaluation of simulation pilots including a commitment to improving technology enhanced learning

Quality assuring key advanced simulation courses and activities making sure, working with the whole Simulation Team, to ensure that the department's provision is responsive to changing learner needs and curricula/commissioner requirements

Supporting through design, planning and delivery of practical and theory-based simulation workshops to develop new and established medical educators

Qualifications and training

Essential

MBBS or equivalent GMC registration with license to practice Evidence of satisfactory/more than satisfactory progress through training to date, including an Outcome 1 at Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) or equivalent Evidence of continuing professional development.

Postgraduate educational qualification

Clinical skills and experience

Essential

Evidence of clinical competencies appropriate for stage in training Evidence of teaching and involvement in improvement projects Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk Ability to work without supervision where appropriate

Evidence of design and delivery of a programme of teaching (at least 6 sessions) Experience of deigning and delivering high fidelity simulation based training Human factors training and experience
