Role: Learning Support Assistant

Location: Barnstaple

Salary: Starting at £90 per day


 

Here at Long-Term Teachers, we are proud to support an excellent specialist provision in North Devon, providing innovative and engaging lessons to students with social, emotional and mental health challenges. Their main aim is to ensure all students feel welcome and safe. Students often arrive at this school following a breakdown in relationships at previous schools, so it is vital that you adopt a nurturing role.


 

About the school:


 

  • Based across two sites (primary in Bideford and secondary in Barnstaple)
  • Majority of the students are of secondary school age
  • Priority is in supporting emotional needs and development
  • Students join them at various stages throughout the year - students have associated SEMH challenges
  • They support students in either reintegrating back into mainstream schools or students complete their studies with them.


 

About the role:


 

  • Provide outstanding support for students with additional needs, helping them to engage in their learning 
  • Work on a 1:1 basis where required to help support academic and personal progress
  • Support the classroom teacher in the day-to-day running of the lessons and classroom
  • Help students develop their emotional wellbeing and equip key life skills
  • You must be flexible to work across sites 


 

About you:


 

  • Must have a genuine passion for making a positive difference to the lives of young people
  • Able to remain calm and professional, especially when managing challenging behaviour - Resilience is key
  • Previous experience working with individuals with SEMH difficulties is highly desirable
  • Must be able to drive, have access to your own vehicle
  • Good sense of humour
  • Willing to be adaptable and flexible
