JOB PURPOSE

To source, order, and issue parts as required by the vehicle maintenance workshops, to maintain accurate records of all transactions required by the Vehicle Maintenance Service.

Duties and Responsibilities.

Issue from stock parts requested by mechanics employed in the workshop. Maintain parts stock at an optimum level to ensure maximum availability of vehicles. Order vehicle parts, oils, and equipment in accordance with approved contract arrangements. Maintain and operate a computerised stock control system for all stock items controlled by the parts department. In conjunction with the workshop foreperson, maintain an inventory of all tools and equipment used in the workshop. Receive orders; prepare parts and other equipment for dispatch to other workshops. This will include dealing with queries in relation to vehicle parts from suppliers and workshops. Initiate, complete and cost all necessary documentation to comply with Vehicle Maintenance requirements. Provide information and statistics as required by the Service Manager. Instruct semi-skilled staff, apprentices and other persons in the operation of the stores. Attend training courses on stores or equipment that may be deemed necessary. Use safe working practices and procedures at all times on all necessary occasions including the wearing of protective clothing, and keep a tidy personal appearance. Co-operate in the upgrading of the Fleet Maintenance System. Carry out all duties in the working conditions normally inherent in the job and comply with: The health and safety at work (NI) Order 1978. Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and Regulations and other legal requirements. Codes of Practice. Assist in achieving vehicle availability targets in accordance with agreed manning levels. Undertake any other duties or responsibilities commensurate with the storeperson's experience and ability that may reasonably be required by the foreperson. Provide Store Person absence cover to other EA Vehicle Maintenance Depots subject to operational needs.  Driving duties to pick up and deliver parts as necessary, and as required by the needs of the service.  ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Performance Criteria Complete work consistently to a high standard. Display initiative in locating parts by various methods and maintaining adequate stock to service the fleet. Be well versed in the application of vehicle legislation and the Education Authority's Vehicle Maintenance Service policies and procedures. Communicate skills and knowledge effectively to staff under training. Reporting Compliance with the working week arrangements as defined by the Service Manager in accordance with the needs of the service. Utilisation of the Time Recording System in an accurate manner and in accordance with the procedures laid down by the Service Manager. Completion of documents and records as decided by the Service Manager including a job costing system.
