Job summary

This role will be based in OL2.

As a Physician Associate you will be acting withinyour professional boundaries, providing care for patients from initial historytaking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their careunder the supervision of a GP. You will demonstrate safe, clinicaldecision-making and expert care for patients in consultation with the relevantGP. Your work will demonstrate improvement in patient outcomes, contributing toreduce health inequalities, improving the efficiency of general practice anddelivering a best-in-class service. Mentorship and supervision will be provided by designated medical personnel.The level and type of supervision will be dependent on the post holders skillsand knowledge and determined by the organisations clinical governancearrangements. You will follow recommended annual appraisals and continuing professionaldevelopment set out by the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA). You will be a core part of the growing MDT, providing services to the patientsregistered with the GP practice.

Main duties of the job

You will be a graduate who has undertaken postgraduate training, Physicianassociates are dependent practitioners but can work autonomously withappropriate support. However, you will need to stay within the limits of yourscope of practice and know when to refer to doctors and other healthcareprofessionals.

As a physician associate, you'll need to:

take patient medical histories during face-to-face and/or telephoneconsultations

carry out physical examinations

order diagnostic tests and analyse results

make diagnoses and clinical assessments

carry out a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within thescope of your role

develop and deliver appropriate treatment and care management plans inconsultation with patients, their relatives and carers

organise further investigations, treatment and referral to adoctor/other healthcare professional where appropriate

evaluate the effectiveness of care management plans

make home visits to patients who are unable to visit thesurgery/hospital due to their condition

provide patients with advice and counselling on health promotion anddisease prevention

maintain accurate clinical records

complete paperwork and other administration duties, including writingreports, letters and other correspondence.

Helping with the overview of care homes.
