2024 looks set to be a significant year of development for our psychological services workforce in South Staffordshire Children and Young People's Learning Disability Team (CYP LD TEAM), working alongside our specialist CAMHS services.

The successful candidates will benefit from being part of a programme of development and improvement in the psychological work offered across our five Specialist CAMHS Teams. We are prioritizing strong clinical leadership, high quality psychological practice and psychologically informed specialist CAMHS provision. Psychological practice across CAMHS will be further assured by the development of a strategy for psychological professions and psychological practice within our CAMHS transformation programme.

The position is based in Lichfield and will cover South Staffordshire. The candidate will work alongside our current Clinical Psychologist and be part of the wider MDT, which includes Nursing, OT, SALT and Psychiatry.

We are also able to consider requests for flexible working and/or reduced hours (minimum wte)

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist psychological assessments, within the areas of agreed responsibility, of children and young people whose have a diagnosis of moderate to severe learning disabilities, as part of a multi-disciplinary assessment process. Assessments will involve the interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations, semi-structured interviews, and guided clinical inquiry methods with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility, within professional guidelines, for the assessment, therapeutic treatment and discharge of children and their families/carers. The post-holder will exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within their work. You will be responsible for adhering to relevant Trust policies and standards and will be accountable for professional and clinical actions. To undertake risk assessment and risk management regarding individual clients. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the young person, parents or family/carers.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

It is a condition of employment that the post-holder is registered with the Health & Care Professions Council and is eligible for registration as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist. Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS including two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. Good undergraduate degree (preferably relevant to psychological therapy). Current registration/accreditation with appropriate body with current practising certificate.

Desirable

Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice. Further training in a specific psychological assessment, model or intervention specific to the role remit/area of work Qualification in one or more recognised and accredited diagnostic assessment/s for Autistic Spectrum Conditions.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse. Ability to exercise full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and intervention, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan. Ability to work effectively within safeguarding procedures in the context of a therapeutic service.

Desirable

Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist. Experience working therapeutically with children and young people with significant emotional or mental health difficulties, and their families/carers. Experience of working with CYP with social and communication difficulties associated with autism. Experience of group work, particularly of relevance for Children & Young people with learning disabilities, ASC and their carers. Experience of specialist standardised assessments for ASC such as ADOS2 and ADI-R. Experience of assessing and treating clients across the full range of care settings. Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care. Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts. Experience of working with third sector providers. Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision. Experience of working clinically with people who present with challenging behaviours, and/or people who have communication difficulties.
