Main duties of the job

Job Description

Duties may include any of the following, subject to necessary training, and supervision where required:

Phlebotomy Recording of Blood Pressures Measurement of height and weight Calculation of BMI Chaperoning as and when required Assisting with Practice Nurse in Baby Imms Clinic BNP/D Dimer testing Fitting of ABPMs Fitting of cardiac monitors

Urinalysis

Health Checks

INRs

To assist visiting Consultants in Clinic

Nail Clippings

Skin Scrapings

Suture Removal

Staple Removal

Simple Dressings

Assisting with minor ops/coil fitting etc.

Assisting Practice Nurse with leg ulcer care

Smoking Cessation

Recording information both manually and on computer system

Maintenance of equipment log/cleaning/service etc.

Undertaking other clinical activities identified by the Practice Nurse or Doctor in accordance with agreed written protocols

Job responsibilities

Administrativeand Housekeeping Duties

Maintain,store, and retrieve records both manual and computerised.

Provideclerical support for the nursing team photocopying etc.

Receiveand transmit information by telephone to agreed Practice standard withparticular attention to confidentiality.

SmokingForms and audits

Toattend Protected Time training

Beresponsible for stocking the consulting rooms both clinically and clerically.

Prepareclinical areas, including instrument preparation, for specific clinicalsessions.

Maintainstock levels of equipment and materials according to the needs of the practice.

Indiscussion with the nursing team, be responsible for supplying health promotionmaterials in the waiting area and consulting rooms.

HR, Training and DevelopmentResponsibilities

Attend training and study days andshare this learning with the team.

Maintain own competencies topractice and ensure current profile folder and registration with appropriateprofessional body is maintained.

Beware and adhere to HR polices.

To participate in clinicalsupervision and understand when it may be necessary to access advice andsupport from senior colleagues, peers, and lead consultants.

To participate in the Practicesannual Appraisal process.

To attend all relevant mandatorytraining as and when required to do so.

Quality and Patient Safety

Protection of Children &Vulnerable Adults To promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people,and vulnerable adults.

Implementation of NICE guidance andother statutory / best practice guidelines.

Infection Control To beresponsible for the prevention and control of infection.

Incident reporting To report anyincidents of harm or near miss in line with the Whaddon Medical Centres incidentreporting policy ensuring appropriate actions are taken to reduce the risk ofreoccurrence.

To contribute to theidentification, management, and reduction of risk in the area ofresponsibility.

To ensure day to day practicereflects the highest standards of governance, clinical effectiveness, safety,and patient experience.

To ensure monitoring of quality andcompliance with standards is demonstrable within the service on an ongoingbasis.

To be aware of the responsibilityof all employees to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients/clients, visitors, and staff.

Communication and Key WorkingRelationships

Establish effective communication channelswithin the health economy.

Provide advice and support for staff.

Take responsibility to communicate the day today working issues that impact on the service.

Form good working relationships and excellentcommunication across the health and social care system includingCommunity Cardiology Service, HospitalCardiology and Heart Failure Teams, Primary Care, Cardio-pulmonaryrehabilitation service, Community Nursing services, End of Life/Palliative Careand Social Care services

General Responsibilities

To maintain up to date knowledge oflegislation, national and local policies, and issues in relation to both thespecific client group and mental health.

To comply with the ProfessionalCodes of Conduct and to be aware of changes in these. To maintain up to dateknowledge of all relevant legislation and local policies and proceduresimplementing this.

To ensure that all duties arecarried out to the highest standard and in accordance with currently qualityinitiatives within the work area.

To comply with all relevantpolicies, procedures, and guidelines, including those relating to EqualOpportunities, Health and Safety and Confidentiality of Information and to beaware of any changes in these.

To comply at all times with theWhaddon Healthcares Information Governance related policies.
