Our team

The Responsible Business team leads on the firm's International Responsible Business strategy and programme. As a centre of excellence within the firm, the team is responsible for how we embed ESG principles throughout the international business, and how we are create positive impact across our four focus areas of people, community, environment and governance and ethics.

Alongside leading on overall firmwide strategy, and corporate communications, the team also supports client pitches and we are responsible for the Environmental sections of key annual reports such as the UN Global Compact and our Responsible Business reports, as well our submissions for key standards including Ecovadis and CDP.

The role

We are recruiting for an Environmental Sustainability Assistant to join the Responsible Business team. Reporting into the Environmental Sustainability Manager, you will support on the delivery of our Environmental Sustainability focus area including supporting the team’s work to ensure Eversheds Sutherland meets its environmental commitments, collating and analysing environmental data, engage colleagues internationally in support of our environmental commitments and supporting the delivery of the firm’s Science Based Targets.

Key responsibilities

The responsible business team has an international remit and as part of your role, you will have the opportunity to support our work across borders and collaborate with our colleagues around the world including US colleagues on high-profile global initiatives.

Supporting the team‘s work to ensure the firm meets its environmental commitmentsCollating and analysing environmental data – energy, waste, travel, supplier spend etc (Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions)Using supplier data platforms to upload data and calculate the firm’s carbon footprintWorking with external consultants to verify environmental data and validate processesUnderstand and supportthe firm’s Science Based TargetsEngaging and working with colleagues in International offices in support of our environmental objectivesKeeping track of all environmental sustainability and related activity across the firm internationallySupporting the Environmental Sustainability Manager in providing content for the environment section of the annual International Responsible Business ReportUpdating Environment and responsible business content on the intranet and websiteCollaborating with other responsible business workstream colleagues where necessary including Community, D&I and Pro Bono on areas of common interest to deliver high-impact results for the firm including with US counterparts for flagship global initiativesWorking with our Communications team to develop high quality and engaging internal and external communicationsSupporting the Environmental Sustainability Manager and other managers within the wider Responsible Business team as necessary for the effective delivery of firm and team prioritiesAssisting with general queries as they may arise from across the firm

Skills and experience:

As an early-career level position, you will be a candidate looking to develop their responsible business career with an enthusiasm and deep interest in the environment and sustainability. You will be highly motivated, work well under pressure and with excellent accuracy. You will also bring a positive, ‘can do’ attitude to this role including a flexible approach to a wide variety of tasks.
