The Speech & Language Therapy team at UHD are looking for a B6 therapist to join our neuro and acute rotations. Our current rotations include NeuroSMART (neuro-specialist rehab), Stroke, community working with the Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team and acute.Due to our recent merger, there will be exposure to other specialist clinical areas such as ENT/voice, head and neck oncology and acquired brain injury with joint teaching, shadowing and professional development opportunities to match your areas of clinical interest.Following recent investment in training, we have a number of opportunities for career development including FEES and videofluoroscopy, with competencies supported through our regular clinics.This is a Band 6 post. Our Stroke team are currently involved in the international PhEAST study, providing opportunities to be involved in research.We offer a 7-day service to our patients so weekend and bank holiday working will be required. As part of University Hospitals Dorset, this rotation will involve working across both The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital sites. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalentDysphagia CompetencyHCPC registrationRegistered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Desirable criteria Videofluoroscopy competencies RCSLT level 3Competence in the assessment and management of patients with tracheostomy Experience Essential criteria Working with a range of conditions including respiratory, neurological conditions, acquired disorders, long-term conditions and care of the elderly in an acute settingIndependent assessment, management, therapeutic intervention and discharge of patients with communication disorders and dysphagia Desirable criteria Supervision of students and junior staffWorking in a Critical Care environment Technical Skills Essential criteria Skills to assess, manage & treat conditions and patients with complex multi pathologies at specialist levelSkills in assessment and support of alternative and augmentative communication aidsSkills to independently prioritise clinical and nonclinical workload Desirable criteria Skills to teach & supervise staff & assistants Knowledge Essential criteria Sound understanding of the pathology of neurological conditions, respiratory conditions, older person’s medicine, gastroenterology and critical care conditionsKnowledge of the clinical pathway for patients from acute care to long term managementUnderstanding of Clinical Governance and its relevance to clinical situationsUnderstanding of National Service Frameworks, NICE guidance and National strategy documents.Ability to critique evidence base and apply to clinical practice Desirable criteria Knowledge of pathways for patients with a tracheostomy Other requirements specific to Desirable criteria To have a full driving license and be able to drive within the local geographic area (will be deemed an essential criteria if interested in a rotational post that includes ESD) Personal Attributes Essential criteria Time management skillsAbility to work under pressureReflective practitioner Language Requirement Essential criteria Be able to speak English as necessary to undertake the role
